Parley P Cantrell
In memory of Parley P Cantrell, born June 20. 1905, a son of the late Raney and Hattie Legg Cantrell Young.  He was united in marriage to Bertie Cantrell Aug. 16, 1928 and to this union were born 2 children:  Woodie Cantrell and Dottie Cantrell Tompson, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 5 half brothers and 4 half sisters, 2 uncles, Woodruf Cantrell and Bobby Legg, 3 aunts, Mrs Betsy Cottle and Mrs Marvy Cantrell and Mrs Anna Jenkins.
He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, uncles, aunts.
He was 72 yrs 2 mos 9 days old at the time of his death which occured Aug 29, 1977 at te ARH Hospital in West Liberty, KY.

Kenneth Lee Chaney
Kenneth L. Chaney died at home at Ary KY, Nov 24, 1976.  He was born Jul 4, 1910.  He was 66 yrs and 4 months old.
Kenneth L Chaney was married to Ollie Canpbell Chaney, Jun 27, 1932.  To this union was born 5 children, 2 preceded him in death, Helen and Carol Sue.
He is survived by his wife Ollie, 1 son, James Victor Chaney, 2 daughters, Betty Jo Brewer and Winnie Smith, 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, also 4 sisters and 2 brothers.


John Cole
John Cole was born June 9, 1891, departed this life May 18, 1967, being 75 yrs, 11 mo, and 9 days of age.  John was a son of the late Joseph and Virginia Pendleton Cole. On June 5, 1913, John was united in marriage to Martha Gullett and to this union was born 4 sons and 3 daughters.  3 sons and 1 daughter preceded him in death and on July 6, 1966, Martha, his wife, preceded him in death.
Those surviving are 1 son, Joe Cole, Mrs Ashley Williams, Mrs Ralph Pennington, and one grandson and one granddaughter and 2 great grandchildren and 2 sisters, Mintie Helton and Deanie Helton.

Frank Conley
Frank Conley, son of the late Alpha and Dora Hutchinson Conley, was born Mar 17, 1924 and was called from our midst Jul 5, 1980, near Cannel City, KY, on the way to the Veterans Hosp in Lexington KY at the age of 56 yrs 3 mo and 18 days.
He was married to Margaret Fannin June 15, 1945, who survives.
Other survivors are, one daughter, Lynn Adams, 1 brother, Renzo, 3 sisters, Gracie Wolfenbarger, Eulah Ball, and Esta Ball.  God the giver of all good gifts gave him 2 grandsons to love, cherish and enjoy;  Darren Frank Conley and Michael Scott Adams.  He also leaves to mourn his passing a host of relatives and friends.  1 son, Frank Jr. preceded him in death.
5 brothers preceded him in death:  Eulas, Roscoe, William, Henry, Homer and Haskel; an infant grandson, Doris F Conley preceded him in death

Susaner Conley
Mrs Susaner Conley, age 87, of Fuget, died Jul 24, 1974.  Funeral services were conducted at her home by Rev. Bruce Reed and Rev Bruce Daniel.  Burial was in the Conley (family) Cemetery.
Mrs Conley was born Oct 24, 1886, in Morgan Co, a daughter of the late William Isaac and Mary Skaggs Ferguson, her husband passed away in 1959.
Mrs Conley is survived by 3 sons, Edgel Conley, Bill Conley and James Conley;  2 daughters, Mrs Monnie Sparks, Mrs Mary E Stapleton and a brother, James Hayden Gerguson of Crockett.

Etta Daniel
On March 2, 1970, death claimed my dearly beloved and sainted mother.  She quietly slipped away to be with the Lord, in Kings Daughters Hospital at Ashland, KY, after an illness of 2 years.
She was born at Flat Gap, Ky on May 29, 1890, the daughter if Isom and Mary Hane (Fairchilds) Daniel.  She came to the end of life's journey at the age of 79 yrs 9 mo and 2 days.
On Apr 5, 1907, she was united in marriage to Arby Daniel, who preceded her in death in 1963.  7 children were born to their union, all surviving her.  They are Mitchell, Marshall and Morris, Bruce, Mrs Grover Lavee (print not good here), and Mrs John Rice.

Arch Dawson
In memory of Arch Dawson, born Sep 25, 1886 and passed from this life on Oct 11, 1979.  He was born in Morgan Co and died in Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown, KY.  A son of the late Doranto and Martha Vandike Dawson.  
He was a retired farmer and a member of the Smith Creek Valley Church.  Brother Dawson was proceded in death by his wife, Martha Fyffe Dawson on Feb 19, 1975.
Survivors are 1 son, James (Bud) Dawson, 4 daughters, Bessie Keeton, Allie Louvene (Sue) Canale, Ruth Dawson, (Snowie) Frances Smith; 2 sisters, Nickeytie Smith and Ruth Dawson;  24 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 11am, Sunday, Oct 14 at the Smith Creek Valley Primitive Baptist Church with Elders Jesse Smith, Elijah Smith, Ronald Hill, and Gobel Wallin.  Burial was in the Dawson Cemetery.


Martha Fyffe Dawson
In memory of Martha Fyffe Dawson.  She was born at Moon, Ky, Jul 13, 1889, a daughter of the late George and Louvine Fyffe.
She was united in marriage to Arch Dawson May 17, 1911 and to this union were born 8 children, 3 have preceded her in death.  They are Elbert, Alma, and Estille.  She is survived by her husband, 1 son, James Dawson, and 4 daughters, Mrs Bessie Keeton, Mrs Louvene Canale, Mrs Ruth Kneisser and Mrs Snowy Smith.
She has 24 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, also 3 sisters, Mrs Barbra Gilliam, Mrs Amandy Hay and Mrs Della Sparks.
She was 86 yrs 7 mos and 6 days old at the time of her death which occured Feb 19, 1975 at West Liberty Hospital.


Peter Daniel Dixon
Peter Daniel Dixon, 52, was dead on arrival at Chillicothe Hospital at 9zm, Monday.
Born Oct 24, 1914 at White House, KY, he was the son of Edgar and Jennie Dnaiel Dixon.
Previously married to Opal Dixon, he married Mrs. Della Pack, Aug 1, 1950.  Surviving in addition to his wife are his parents.  Also surviving are 3 daughters, Delma, Janelle, and Delores, a stepdaughter, Mrs. Patricia Ratliff;  3 sons, Clyde, Delmar and Gene, a stepson, Benjamin Pack;  10 grandchildren, 6 sisters, Mrs. Virgie Blair, Mrs. Rosemary Dow, Mrs Addie Mollette, Mrs Hatty Wells, Mrs. Fora Osborne, and Mrs Martha Daugherty and 3 brothers, Walter Dixon, Raymond and Chester Dixon.


Gladey Estepp
Gladey Estepp was born Mar 26, 1927, departed this life Mar 25, 1967, liking one day being 40 yrs of age.  Gladey was a daughter of Oscar and Florence Lemaster Gullett in her young days.  She was united in marriage to Samuel Orville Estepp.
Surviving are her husband, one daughter, Manda Lee at home.  Her father Oscar Gullett and her mother, Florence Lemaster Gullett, 3 brothers, Bruce Gullett, D. B. Gullett and Troy Gullett and 4 sisters, Ada Vance, Mary Minix, Martha Williams, Amanda Prater.

James H. (Hady) Ferguson
James H. (Hady) Ferguson of Moon, KY died at the hospital in West Liberty following an extended illness.
He was born Aug 9, 1892 at Moon, Ky.  he was a son of the late William Isaac and Mary Skaggs Ferguson.  Entered into rest Sept 16, 1974.  He was 82 yrs and 28 days of age.
He was married to Cora E Gibson Ferguson Oct 20, 1920.  To this union was born 2 children, Dorothy Ferguson Williams and Ford Ferguson.  He has 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Chillie Gambil
In memory of Chillie Gambil, born Nov 13, 1909, a son of the late Lonzie and Victory Cantrell Gambil.  He married Lula Cantrell, who preceded him in death and to this union were born 2 children, Mrs Vertaie Gladis Cantrell and Bronson Gambil.  He is survived by his son and daughter, 5 brothers, Floyd, Hatfield, Joe, John R and Haney.  4 sisters, Mrs Millie Wright, Mrs Angie Wright, Mrs Nora Wright and Mrs Betty Cantrell.  Also 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
At the time of his death which occurred at his home May 24, 1975, he was 65 yrs 6 mos and 11 days old.

 Myrtie Frances Holbrook Hill
In memory of Myrtie Frances Holbrook Hill.  She was born Aug 3, 1888, the daughter of Elisa and Elizabeth Hughes Holbrook of Mima KY.  She was united in marriage to Samuel Hill Dec 22, 1908 at Relief, KY, by Elder Jackson Hamilton and to this union were born 5 children - Alec and Whipple deceased.  She is survived by 1 daughter, Mrs Bertie Cantrell of Mima, 2 sons Ronald and Bernard, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren;  1 half-brother, Crawford Holbrook and one sister, Rena V Smith and 1 uncle, Ora Holbrook.
Her death, which occured Nov 27, 1976 at Morgan Co A.R.H. Hospital after a short illness.
 

Sanford Keeton
In memory of Sanford Keeton, born June 6, 1898, a son of the late Laranza and Elizabeth Eldridge Keeton.  He was united in marriage to Edy Hill Jan 30, 1924.  To this union were born 9 children, Mrs mary Long, Cecil Keeton, Mrs Wettie Powers, Mrs Nancy Nickel, Clifford Keeton, Mrs Gracie Dulen, Clyde Keeton, Ruthann Sparks, Mrs Mollie Gambil.
2 brothers, 1 sister, Anthy Keeton, Elzie Keeton, Mrs Lissie Smith, 40 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, children, brothers and sister and grandchildren.
At the time of his death which occurred at his home Oct 13, 1976, at the age of 78 yrs 4 m and 8 days.

Ruth Klaiber
Ruth Klaiber, 76, of Ohio Furnace died suddenly Friday, June 19, 1970 at 11:15pm at the Lawrence Co Gen Hosp of an apparent heart attack.
Mrs Klaiber was born Mar 16, 1894 at South Point, a daughter of the late Charles and Luella Chatfield.  She was united in marriage in 1918 to John Marcus Klaiber, who died in 1956.  Surviving are the following children:
Mrs Virginia Martin, Mrs Luella McCall, Mary Klaiber at home, and Mrs Ruby Showalter.  John Harsy and Carl Klaiber, also 2 step-children, 1 brother, Ernest Chatfield and 1 sister, Mrs Bess Dyer.

Rich Lewis
In memory of Rich Lewis, he was born in 1900 and passed from this life on Dec 26, 1980.  He was 80 yrs old.
He is survived by his wife Della, and 3 children, Gladis Lewis Wheeler, James Lewis, Rich Lewis Jr.
His eldest son Dallas preceded him in death.


Leaner Shepherd
In memory of Leaner Shepherd, she was born Sept 17, 1898 and died June 9, 1980.  Sister Shepherd was 82 years old.
She is survived by 1 sister, Polly Ritchie and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
 

Jewell Gullett Smith
In Memory of Jewell Gullett Smith, she was the daughter of Bud and Nora Omes Gullett.  She past from this life on Dec 5, 1979 at a hosp in Lexington, KY, she was united in marriage to Stanford Smith, and to this union was born 8 children.
3 sons Darrel Smith, Billy Smith, Stanford Smith Jr, 5 daughters, Carolyn Sue Cobb, Dora Mae Whitt, Patricia Stoneman, Avanell Horamean, and Karen.

P. Smith
In memory of P. Smith, born Jul 6, 1880, a son of the late Cove and Vicy Cantrell Smith.
He was united in marriage to Bertha Blevins Nov 12, 1902, and to this union were born 3 children, Mrs Pearlie Jones, Mrs Amanda Smith and Mrs Mavie Ball.  His wife, Bertha, departed this life Apr 30, 1969.
He is survived by his 3 daughters and 1 brother, R. C. Smith and 11 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren.
He was 93 yrs 11 mo and 21 days old at the time of his death which occurred June 15, 1974 at the Paintsville Hospital.

Shelby F Smith
In memory of Shelby F Smith, born July19, 1906, a son of Thomas and Liddie Williams Smith.
He was united in marriage to Belva Ward, Dec 24, 1925.  To this union were born 5 children, 2 sons and 3 daughters, Mrs Vauda Whitt, Mrs Elizabeth Elam, Mrs Linnie McNeal, McCoy Smith and Harvey Smith.  
He is survived by his wife and children, 10 grandchildren, 2 brothers, E. M. Smith and Jessie Smith and 3 sisters, Mrs Amanda Roseberry, Mrs Lucy Pelprey and Mrs Mattie Keeton, and one uncle Winston V Smith and 2 aunts Mrs Edan Bailey and Mrs Walker Williams, Mrs Thomas Williams
He was 68 yrs 3 mos and 7 days old at the time of his death, which occured Oct 26, 1974.

Walter Stanford Smith
Walter Stanford Smith age 46 yrs 6 mo and 8 days old, of New Haven, KY passed from this live Sunday Jan 25, 1981.
He is survived by his wife Francis (Dawson) Smith, 5 children, 2 of them at home, Geraid W. Smith and Elizabeth Smith, 3 children married, Larry Stanford Smith, Vanessa Richardson, and Sandra Williams, his mother and father, Auty and Pearl (Ison) Smith of Crockett, KY
4 brothers and 3 sisters, Gerald Smith, William Selvin Smith, Billy W Smith, Jason J Smith, Lora Margorie Holbrook, Ruby May Cantrell, Carol Jannis Holbrook, 6 grandchildren.
Brother Walter left this world from his post of duty telling people to flee from the wrath of God - and what great love God had for them.
(Just a note from me, here.  This was my father, he was a Preacher, and he did die in the pulpit after preaching one of his sermons in Church.  He always said that was the way that he wanted to die, just like his grandfather, William Walker Smith.
There were errors here in this obit, which I took the liberty of correcting.  I have not done so with the others.)


Winston Smith
In memory of Winston Smith.  He was born Aug. 28, 1920.  A son of W. W. Smith and Mahala Hill Smith, both deceased.
He was united in marriage to Rena Keeton Aug. 18, 1958.  He had one daughter by a former marriage, Mrs Judy Reynolds, 2 grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Rena and hsi daughter, 2 grandchildren , also 2 brothers, Malcolm Smith and Auty Smith, Mrs Exie Smith, Mrs Mexie Cottle and 1 uncle, Winston V Smith and 1 aunt, Mrs Edna Bailey.
He was 56 yrs 1 mo and 17 days of age at the time of his death, which occured Oct 12, 1976 at West Liberty Hosp.


Winston V Smith
In memory of Winston V. Smith
He was born Apr 209, 1886, a son of the late Eligia and Sarah Smith Smith.  He was united in marriage to the late Jannie Dexter Cantrell and to this union were born 6 children.  2 preceded him in death.
He is survived by 2 sons and 2 daughters, Revrie O Smith, Charles B Smith, Ronnie K Smith Ferguson, Saphrania Smith Crisp;  1 sister, Edna Bailey, 13 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
His death, which occured June 8, 1977 at the St Elizabeth Hospital, East Chicago, IN, at the age of 91 yrs, 1 mo and 9 days.

Audra Wallen
In memory of Audra Wallen who was born may 22, 1930, a son of the late Sanford and Fannie Ferguson Wallen.  He was united in marriage to Wilma Ruth Holbrook Jul 2, 1956.  To this union were born no children.
He is survived by his wife and one daughter by a former marriage, Mrs. Yolonda Pennington, also by 3 brothers, Ballard, Goebel, and Gaylord Wallen;  2 sisters, Mrs. Oval Ferguson and Mrs. Mitchel Keeton.
At the time of his death, which occurred Dec 30, 1973, he was 43 yrs 7 mo, and 8 days old.

Greenberry Wright
Greenberry Wright was born Apr 5, 1902 in Morgan Co, KY.  He passed from this life Jan 14, 1981, at Morgan Co. Appalachian Regional Hospital in West Liberty, following an extended illness at the age of 78.
He was the son of the late Leander Wright and Minite Wright.
He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Sandus Melvin Wright and Willis Junior Wright.  He is survived by his wife, Margaret Angie Gamble Wright, 5 daughters, Vela Mae Curtis, Badgie Cantrell, Betty Keeton, Vannie Rose Curtis, Burlene Wright, 3 sons, Cecil Wright, Ronnie Wright, Willard Wright;  3 sisters Madgie McKenzie, Grettie Dyer, Polly Keeton, 1 brother Napline Wright, 1 half-brother, Hubert Wright, 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren.


 

 

This is the last book that I found that had obituaries in it.  It is 1970.
There are 3 obits in it, and I am only going to list 2.   The 3rd was a young person, and I know she still has living family members, and I thought it best to leave her out.
The first here is my g grandmother.


Mahala A. (Aglentine) (Hill) Smith
In Memory of Mahala A. Hill Smith.  She was born Dec 15, 1884, a daughter of the late (Huston)Cromwell and Dycy Rowland Hill.  She was the last of her family.  Her brother and sisters have preceded her in death.
She was united in marriage to Elder William W. Smith Apr 3, 1901 who has preceded her in death.  To this union was born 9 children, 4 of them deceased.  She is survived by 3 sons and 2 daughters.  Malcolm Smith, Auty Smith, and Winston Smith.  Exie (Smith) Smith, and Mexie Cottle, 25 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Her death, which occurred at her home Jan 6, 1970, being 85 yrs 22 days old.  

Mary E Gibson
Mary E. Gibson was born in Elliott Co, Mar 7, 1883, was the daughter of Tom and Mandy Stephens and departed this life Aug 10, 1970 at the age of 87 yrs, 5 mo and 3 days.
She was married to Oscar Gibson in 1906.   To this union was born 9 children, 5 girls and 4 boys.  Mabel Gibson Hicks, Ersille Gibson, Russell Gibson, Monnie Gibson Butcher, Sarah May Gibson Farley, Ray Gibson, Grace Gibson McDonald.  Her husband and 2 children preceded her in death, Homer Gibson and Cora M. Gibson.
