Ward's Bakery has operated at the same
location on South Main Street in Nicholasville for 71
years, but finally had to close it's doors this summer,
1998, due to increased competition from larger businesses
offering baked goods. The store was opened in February of
1927 by John Peter Ward Sr. and was later run by his son,
Jack. The bakery has changed hands several times but never changed it's business, offering donuts, cakes, breads and sandwiches. At the time of it's closing, the bakery was owned by Jeff Rohrback, who, in an article in the Jessamine Journal, said,"We have had customers from as far away as Texas who were raised in Jessamine County, come in and tell us a trip back home wouldn't be the same without a visit to Ward's." |
