The present church building was the second Catholic church to be built on this lot. The original church building was completed in 1867, on a lot purchased from Moreau Brown, on the south side of South Main St. in Nicholasville. The first building was supposedly built from timbers hauled from Camp Nelson and were taken from the old barracks which were used during the Civil War. The Catholic congregation had outgrown the original church by 1921 and construction was begun on the present building, using Kentucky limestone quarried within 5 miles of the church site. John C. Harris, of Nicholasville, was the architect and M.O. Flynn, also of Nicholasville, was the contractor for the stone work. Flynn died before the church was finished and his sons completed the stone work.
