Bruner's Store was one of the few country stores that operated in Jessamine county and was located at the forks of Sugar creek Road, where it divided into Lock 8 Road and Cream Ridge. Constructed in 1891 by John W. Overstreet, it knew many owners during it's many years in operation. Among operators of the store have been, John W. Overstreet, Earnest May, Forest Canter, Freeman Stapp and Ira and Lotella Bruner, Lotella operating it after her husband's death, until 1989.
The store was a center of the social community in that area, with folks dropping by to watch tv, talk about problems, use the phone, or to get a haircut, by Ira, for 25 cents. Being located so near the river, it was a busy place on the week-ends with folks stopping there to pick up any forgotten items for their day of fun at Lock 8. Gone are any signs indicating the busy place it once was, but the memories remain.
