Age, 26 years of age, of Galveston, Ky., was born on July 31, 1975, in Prestonsburg, Ky. She was the daughter of Norna Jean Shepherd of Galveston, and Michael Ray Vance of Beaver, Ky. She passed away suddenly at McDowell ARH Thursday, June 6, 2002. She was a homemaker and loving mother and daughter. She is survived by her two children, Gabriel Candice Vance, and Antiona Cheyenne Vance of Galveston; two brothers, Michael Vance Jr. of Mt. Sterling, Ky., Wendell Douglas Vance of Beaver, Ky.; one half-sister, Gerri Whitney Vance of Ivel, Ky., and four nephews and one niece. She is the grandchild of Minerva Osborne and the late Ernest Vance and the late Bert and Virginia Shepherd Conn. There is a host of family and friends who will mourn her passing. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, June 10, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., at the United Christian Church of God at Hi Hat, Ky., with Louis Ferrari, Bill Slone and others officiating. He was born June 17, 1911, in Gunlock, the son of the late Charles B. and Sarah Shepherd Vanderpool. He was a retired coal miner, and a member of the Cow Creek Freewill Baptist Church. He had been a minister since 1944. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. Vanderpool. Survivors include: One Son, Isaac "Ike" Vanderpool of Anderson, Tennessee; six daughters, Ethel Scarberry of Martin, Effie Garrett of Prestonsburg, Sarah Jones of Englewood, Florida, Phyllis Keel of South Whitley, Indiana, Mary Stratton of Ivel, and Martha Kidd of Prestonsburg; one half-brother, Lonzo Shepherd of Prestonsburg; 32 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, and 35 great-great grandchildren. Age, 81, of Powell, Tennessee, died Monday, October 16, 2000, at his home. He was born December 17, 1918, in Floyd County, the son of the late John and Laura Hall Vanderpool. He retired in 1983 from Martin Marietta Energy Systems/ Y-12 where he was an electrician. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army, attended First Baptist Church of Powell, was a 48-year member of Faith Masonic Lodge No. 756, member of the OES No. 390, the IBEW and a Kentucky Colonel. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Hill Vanderpool. Other survivors include one son, Royce D. Vanderpool of Pittsburgh; one daughter, Janice "Vandy" Shake of Olney, Illinois; two sisters, Mavis Kohler and Magia Carver and Shirley Emory, both of Oak Ridge; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was born August 21, 1923, at Dwale, the son of the late Edward and Susan Campbell Vaughn. His occupation was that of a mason and carpenter. He was a member of the Church of Christ at Arkansas Creek, Martin. He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Bradley) Vaughn. Other survivors include two sons, Walter Vaughn of Dwale, and Steven Vaughn of Allen; seven daughters, Doreka Vaughn, and Luci Lafferty, both of Dwale, Dedra Vaughn, Carolyn Goble, and Jerry Cornette, all of Prestonsburg, Regina Mullins of Sidney, and Janelle Carver of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 19, at 1 p.m., at the Burke Funeral Home, Prestonsburg, with Rev. Jack Howard officiating. Burial will be at the Dwale Community Cemetery. All arrangements are under direction of Burke Funeral Home. Visitation is at the funeral home. Age, 84, of Prestonsburg, Ky., died Tuesday, February 19, 2002, at Highlands Regional Medical Center. Born on May 6, 1917, in Prestonsburg, Ky., he was the son of the late Harry Wesley Vaughan and Fannie Perry Vaughan. He was a former coal miner at Princess Elkhorn Coal Co., David, Ky., a member of the First Church of God, Prestonsburg, Ky., and a member of UMWA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jones Vaughan, on March 20, 1999. Survivors include one daughter, Grace Evelyn (Bruce) Hackworth of Prestonsburg, Ky.; one son, Frank (Leva Kaye) Vaughan Jr., of Prestonsburg, Ky.; one sister, Alberta Baldridge of Prestonsburg, Ky.; seven grandchildren, Chuck Hackworth, David Hackworth, Tony Hackworth, Kevin Vaughan, Grace C. Goodman, Tamara Vaughan and Jennifer Kruzel; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services were conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 21, at Richmond Memorial Cemetery, Prestonsburg, Ky., with Rev. Steve Williams officiating. VAUGHN, Martha Jones
Age 78, of Prestonsburg, passed away March 20, 1999, at H.R.M.C. . Mrs. Vaughn was born at Ligon, Ky., Oct. 25, 1920, to the late Belle Reynolds and Sylvester Jones, w/o Frank Vaughn Sr.(60 yrs married), one son, Frank Vaughn Jr., a daughter, Grace Evelyn Hackworth, all of Prestonsburg. She also leaves four grandsons, Kevin Vaughn, of Lexington, Ky., Charles, David, and Tony Hackworth, of Prestonsburg; three grand daughters, Grace C. Goodman, Tamera Vaughn Little of Prestonsburg, and Jennifer K. Kruzel of Goshen, Indiana. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. Also to mourn her passing is her son-in-.law, Bruce Hackworth, and daughter-in-law, Leva K. Vaughn. Graveside services were held Monday, March 22, at 11:00a.m., at Richmond Cemetery.

Age 89, of Cape Coral, Florida, formerly of Prestonsburg, died Thursday, October 21, at Cape Coral Hospital. She was born February 6, 1910 in Prestonsburg to the late George & Nola Gose Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Jefferson (Jeff) Vaughan, who died February 7, 1990. She was a charter member of the Tom Moore Freewill Baptist Church in Prestonsburg and a member of the Eastern Star. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Nell Bingham of Cape Coral, Florida; one brother, D. K. Harris of Warsaw, Indiana; Burial in the Vaughan Family Cemetery in Prestonsburg.

Age, 94, of Prestonsburg, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at Riverview Health Care Center. Born at Risner, Ky., (Floyd County), she was the daughter of the late Columbus (Lum) Prater and Caroline Johnson Prater. She was a member of the Community United Methodist Church, Prestonsburg, and a life member of Miriam Rebekah Lodge No. 31, Prestonsburg. She was also a member of the Independent Christian Women"s Fellowship and was named Mother of the Year in 1988. She was preceded in death by her husband, David (Dove) J. Vaughan, January 25, 1984. Survivors include three sons, John E. Vaughan of 5707 Laurel Ridge Rd., Chattanooga, Tn., Dr. Ronald E. Vaughan of 4221 Broadway St., South Salem, Oh., Joe L. Vaughan of 425 Severn Way, Lexington, Ky.; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Martin L. Vaughan, and one brother, Taylor Prater. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 1, 2001, at 1 p.m., at the Community United Methodist Church, Prestonsburg, with Rev. Steven Pescosolido officiating. Age 79, of Langley, Ky., wife of the late Maurice Lee Vaughn, passed away, Thursday, March 23, 2000, at her residence following an extended illness. She was born December 1, 1920, in Louisville, Ky., the daughter of the late Dr. J.H. and Bertha May Allen. Mrs. Vaughn was a retired teacher at Maytown High School and Daniel Arthur Rehabilitation Center in Oak Ridge, Tn., and member of the Kern Methodist Church, Oak Ridge, Tn., and Maytown United Methodist Church, Maytown, Ky. Mrs. Vaughn is survived by two sons, Robert Joseph Vaughn of Knoxville, Tn., and Richard Eugene Vaughn of Clinton, Tn.; one daughter, Margaret Ann Vaughn of Auxier, Ky.; one sister, Harriet Allen of Langley, Ky.; five granddaughters, Kelli and Kari Vaughn of Knoxville, Tn., Megan, Brittany and Katie Vaughn of Clinton, Tn.; three great-grandchildren; two special nieces, Teddie and Elizabeth Allen; and special friend, Don Marshall. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2000, at Hall Funeral Home, Martin, Ky., with Jamie Williams officiating. Blanch M. Vaught died Sunday, August 26, 2001. A native of Prestonsburg, Ky., she had been a longtime Peninsula resident. She was a daughter of the late Bill and Eunice Morgan of Abbott. Survivors include two daughters, Dale Boettner of Newport News, and Bonita Tovey and her husband, Paul, of Suffolk; her son, Rick Dotson and his wife, Linda, of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Vivian Childers of North Carolina; three brothers, Ross Morgan of Ohio, John Morgan of Kansas and Jim Morgan of Ky.; and six grandchildren, Melissa Boettner, Eric, David, and Joseph Dotson, and Allison and Amanda Tovey. Age, 66, of Prestonsburg, died Sunday, August 28, 2005, at her residence. Born August 19, 1939, in Prestonsburg, she was the daughter of the late John Bud "J.B." Ford and Anna Marsillett Ford. She was a former receptionist for Dr. Keith Leslie, DMD, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, in Prestonsburg. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth E. Verley of Prestonsburg. Other survivors include one son, Scot E. Verley of Prestonsburg; granddaughters, Ashley Lee Milburn and Trisha Crammer; and a great-grandaughter, Kaylee Layne. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Lee Dotson. Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, August 31, at 12:30 pm., at the Porter Cemetery, in Prestonsburg. Born November 13, 1905, at Collista in Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late Levi and Jane Conley Blair. She was a member of Steeles Creek Old Regular Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. "Jack" Vincent. Survivors include one son, Billy J. Vincent of Lexington; two daughters, Mary E. Stewart of Wayland, and Anna Mae Welch of Elyria, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Age, 67, of Columbia City, Indiana, died Saturday, May 21, 2005, at his residence. Born November 22, 1937, in Jackson, he was the son of George and Stella (Burton) Vires. He lived most of his life in Warsaw and Pierceton, in the lake areas of Indiana. He is survived by his wife, Nawasa Shepherd Vires. They were married on July 7, 1962, in West Liberty. He was a truck driver for Woody Everly and Son Trucking Company, and was a member of the National Rifle Association. Survivors, other than his wife, include his step-children: Debra Jane Matthews of Columbia, South Carolina, Pamela Sue Hotte of North Charleston, South Carolina, and Claude LeRoy Wood of Sydney, Indiana; one brother, Daniel Vires of Warsaw, Indiana; five sisters: Lorena Graham of Eaton, Ohio, Altonia Conley of Columbia City, Indiana, Norma Jean Sleeth of Claypool, indiana, Stella Jo Hyden of Prestonsburg, and Creola Conley of Plymouth, Indiana; and 10 step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Georgia Babcock and Marie Vires; and one step-son, Mark Kelley Wood. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 27, at 1 p.m., at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, Indiana, with Pastor Rick Pride officiating.
