FAIN, Hattie Marie Tufts

Age, 95, of Wheelwright, died Saturday, February 5, 2000, in the Prestonsburg Health Care Center, after a long illness. She was born at Rush, on December 7, 1904, the daughter of the late William H. and Amanda Jane Barney Tufts. She was a member of the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Fain. Survivors include one son, George E. Fain of Wheelwright; two daughters, Geraldine Fain of Columbus, Ohio, and Ella Jane Hall of Prestonsburg; one brother, William H. Tufts of Wheelwright; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren-and one great-great-grandchild. Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, under the direction of Hall Funeral Home.

FAIRCHILD, Ruth

Age 79, of Prestonsburg, formerly of Oil Springs, d, December 26, 1998, at HRMC, Prestonsburg. Born May 9, 1919, in Boyd County, d/o Bate and Eva Watson Lemaster. She was a member of the Highland Avenue Freewill Baptist Church. w/o , Doug Fairchild, and son, Eddie Fairchild. Survivors include three children, John Wayne Fairchild of Van Lear, Alice Rowe of Prestonsburg, and Jim Fairchild of Paintsville. Burial was in the Litteral Cemetery at Oil Springs.

FANNIN, Dorcas Tussey

Dorcas Tussey Fannin, of Spurlock Fork of Middle Creek in Floyd County, passed away March 10, 2002, at the age of 75. She was born March 1, 1927, the daughter of the late Fred and Julia Haywood Tussey of Spurlock Fork, of Middle Creek, in Floyd County. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Fannin Sr., in 1978, after 31 years of marriage. She was a born again Christian of the Baptist faith. Before her retirement in 1991, following 25 years of service, she worked for the Floyd County Board of Education as a Cook at Clark Elementary School. She is survived by her three children, Betty Fannin Layne of Syracuse, Indiana; Ernest Fannin Jr., of Spurlock, and Deborah Fannin of Oviedo, Florida; one brother, Donald Tussey of Middle Creek; two sisters, Angie Justice of Spurlock; and Lena Mae Hall of Town Branch, Prestonsburg; four grandchildren, Melissa Layne Drongowski of Nashville, Tennessee; James Michael Layne of Syracuse, Indiana; Christopher Fannin of Spurlock; and Pamela Fannin of Georgetown, South Carolina; three great-grandchildren, Christopher Blake Fannin, Alexander Drongowski, and Emilia Layne. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Bill Tussey of South Williamson, West Virginia; Calvin Tussey of Caney Creek, Curtis Tussey of Lexington, Ky. and Rev. L.P. Tussey of West Prestonsburg. Funeral services will be held at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel, Prestonsburg, Ky., on Wednesday, March 13, 2002, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dan Heintzelman and Randolph Crisp officiating. , Age 73, of Prestonsburg, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at her residence. Born January 2, 1925 at Weston, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Hughes and Elizabeth Sharp White. She was a para-professional with the Floyd County Board of Education. She worked with handicapped children as a volunteer. She was a member of the Miriam Rebekah Lodge No. 31, First Baptist Church (Irene Cole Memorial) in Prestonsburg. She was formerly employed at Mountain Comprehensive Care Center. Survivors include her husband, T. J. "Jody" Fannin; one daughter, Elizabeth Chaffin of Prestonsburg; two sons, John Gray of Paintsville and Huey Gray of Lexington; seven grandchildren. Entombment was in the Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.

FANNIN, Henry Franklin

Age 67, of Martin, husband of Mary A. Schober Fannin, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2005, in the Veterans Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia. He was born October 1, 1937, the son of the late Otto Fannin and Alma Halbert Fannin. He was a welder and carpenter, and a member of the AmVets. Survivors include his wife, Mary; one son, Franklin W. Fannin of Martin; one daughter, Sandra A. Compton of Prestonsburg; one brother, Otto Fannin Jr,. of Proctorville, Ohio; one sister, Shirley Anderson of Martin; three grandchildren: Brittany Compton, Nathan Compton, and Logan Fannin. Funeral services for Henry Franklin Fannin were conducted Sunday, April 24, at 3 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, in Martin, with Clergyman Mark Tackett officiating. Burial was in the Mayo Cemetery, in Prestonsburg, under the professional care of the Hall Funeral Home. Visitation was at the funeral home. Age, 65, of Endicott, died Monday, August 7, 2006, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, in Prestonsburg. Born December 28, 1940, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late Burbon and Lannie Burchell Setser. She was a loving mother and homemaker; and a member of the Endicott Freewill Baptist Church. She was twice married, first to Bobby Donald Morrison, and later to Braxton Fannin. They both preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons: Donald Gene Morrison (Betta) and Michael David Morrison (Shirley), both of Endicott; two daughters: Bobbie Lynn Morrison Artrip (Gary) of Martin, and Priscilla Dawn Tussey (Robbie) of Lexington; a sister, Jerlen Jervis of Endicott; five grandchildren: Gregory, Jesse, Raven, Tyler and Austin; and one great-grandchild, Natalie. In addition to her parents, and husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, J. B. Setser; and three sisters: Zella Setser, Stella Setser, and Nancy Ellen Setser. FARMER, Bill

, 75, 514 W. Third St., North Manchester, died Jan. 6, 2000, at Methodist Hospital. He was born on Dec. 9, 1924, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Willie and Goldie (Ramey) Farmer. He married Marie Burchitt on Sept. 24, 1946. She died on June 27, 1998. . He was a World War II Navy veteran, and was a member of the North Manchester American Legion. Surviving are four sons, Larry Farmer, Paul Douglas Farmer and James Edward Farmer, all of North Manchester, and Jerry Randal Farmer, Pierceton; two daughters, Mrs. James (Golda) Clark, Liberty Mills, and Lois Warren, North Manchester; 18 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A brother and three children are deceased. Burial in Swank Cemetery, Liberty Mills.

FERGUSON, Elmer Hughes

Age 85, of Wheelwright, Ky., husband of Edna Mae Ferguson and widower of Hazel Mae Blair Ferguson, died Saturday, June 9, 2001, at Our Lady of the Way Hospital, Martin, Ky. He was born June 8, 1916 in Harold, Ky., a son of the late Josh and Rosa Skeens Ferguson. Elmer was a retired preparation plant superintendent for Inland Steel and National Mines, a World War II Army Staff Sergeant, a member of the Wheelwright United Methodist Church, a Wheelwright City mayor for 23 years, served as a board member on the Big Sandy Area Development Agency, Prestonsburg, served on an advisory committee for the Prestonsburg Community College and the McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital. He was the Republican party chairman for Floyd County for several years, a Kentucky Colonel and avid University of Kentucky supporter. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Amber Elizabeth Ferguson Hines of Indian Springs, Oh., Deborah Ann Ferguson Hall and Cathleen Elaine Ferguson Johnson, both of Wheelwright, Ky.; three step-daughters, Vivian Hall and Judy Dawson, both of Plymouth, Oh., Freda Compton of Aivaton, Ky., several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Howard Ferguson and Clayton Ferguson and one sister, Lora Ferguson McKnight. Funeral services for Elmer Ferguson were conducted Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at 1:00 p.m., at the Wheelwright United Methodist Church, Wheelwright, Ky., with Rev. Bobby Isaac officiating. Burial followed in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel, Ky., with the Hall Funeral Home caring for those arrangements. Visitation was at the Hall Funeral Home. Age, 89, of Auxier, died Monday, November 22, 1999, at Highlands Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness. He was born August 15, 1910, in Laynesville, Floyd County, the son of the late Josh Ferguson and Rosanna Skeens. He was an employee of Inland Steel Co. He was a member of the Auxier Freewill Baptist Church, and Auxier Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by his wife, Eula Mae Spurgeon Ferguson. Other survivors include two daughters, Renee Wells of Van Lear, Nancy Stone of Prestonsburg; one brother, Elmer Ferguson of Wheelwright; Burial in Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel.

FERGUSON, Lona Slone

Age, 67, of Lexington, formerly of Martin. died Sunday, December 12, 1999 at her residence. She was born August 22, 1932, the daughter of the late Isom B. and Pearlie Mullins Slone. She was a retired nurse for the Old Beaver Valley and Our Lady of the Way Hospitals. Her husband, Malcolm Ferguson, preceded her in death. She is survived by one son. Malcom "Mac" Ferguson Burial will be in the May Cemetery, Martin.

FEARN, Alta A.

Age, 91, of Cisne, Illinois, died Friday,' March 10, 2000, at the Wayfair Restorium in Fairfield, Illinois. She was born January 10, 1909, at Geff, Illinois, the daughter of the late Thomas Scott and Velma Simms. She was a member of the Cisne United Methodist Church at Cisne, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Fearn. She is survived by three sons, Albert Fearn of Harmon, Oklahoma, Jack Fearn of Cisne, Illinois and Max Fearn of Prestonsburg; three sisters, Leota Tannahill, of Illinois, Hazel Grubb of McLeansboro, Illinois, and Henrietta Holstein of Fairfield, Illinois; two brothers, Ruel Scott and Roy Fred Scott of Fairfield, Illinois; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was a retired cook from Freeburn Grade School for 13 years and a member of the Freeburn Pentecostal Church for 70 years. She is survived by one daughter, Janie Lou Hurley of Stopover and two sons, Melvin "Ann" Ferrell of Stopover, and Stuart Ferrell of Stopover; and five grandchildren. Age 31, of Pikeville, passed away Friday, February 22, 2008 at Dean in Letcher County, Kentucky. He was employed by J&M Monitoring Company and a member of the Freewill Baptist Church. Michael Dwight Fields was born in Pike County, on August 29, 1976, the son of Reta Williams Gooch and Terry Fields of Pikeville, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by a stepsister, Lisa Gooch Ousley. Michael Dwight Fields is survived by his parent Reta Williams Gooch his step father David Gooch and his father Terry Fields and stepmother Jewell Fields all of Pikeville. Michael is survived by his Maternal Grandparents, Donald and Juanita Williams, and Paternal Grandparents, David and Dorothy Fields all of Pikeville. Also survived by one brother, Tony Fields of Winchester and one stepbrother, Justin Sayers of Lexington. Also survived by one stepsister, Kimberly Gooch Davis of Prestonsburg. Michael Dwight Fields is also survived by his Fiance' Karrah Ruth Varney of Pikeville. Michael Dwight Fields will be sadly missed by his family, friends and many loved ones. (JWCAL)

He is survived by his wife, Brenda (Mosley) Fife; two sons: Michael (Yvette) of Dutton, Alabama; and Robert (Kyndahl) of Henegar, Alabama; and one daughter, Carol (Chris) Robertson of Dutton, Alabama. He has six sisters: Anna Flonta (John) of Inverness, Florida; Barbara Johnson (John) of Tavares, Florida, Mary Joseph of Section, Alabama; Lucy Harper (Bobby) Canyon of Lake, Texas; Sandi Lawson (Eddie) of Dana; and Brenda Stackhouse (Steve) of Floral City, Florida; he has two brothers: Clyde Fife of Dana, and Randy Fife of West Liberty. He has seven grandchildren: Jesse Fife, Amanda Fife, Samantha Robertson, Mickey Fife, Tim Smith, Casey Smith, and Sean Lebeau. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Nannie Fife; two brothers: Franklin and Charles Ray Fife; two sisters: Gloria Fay and Lois Jean (Fife) Stepp, all of Kentucky. Age 65, of Langley, Ky., husband of Betty Stratton Flanery, passed away, Friday morning, January 11, 2002, at the Pikeville Methodist Hospital, Pikeville, Ky. He was born September 9, 1936, the son of the late William Ray Flanery and Alva May Flanery, of Langley, Ky. He was a deacon at the First Baptist Church, Martin, Ky., a founding member of the Maytown Volunteer Fire Department, a former Floyd County Math teacher, a retired Land Manager for Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation in Charleston, West Virginia, and a member of John W. Hall Lodge 950, F&AM, Martin, Ky. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son,William Herschel Flanery of Dallas, Texas; two grandsons, William Michael Flanery and David Heath Flanery of Tulsa, Ok.; and one sister, Mary Jo Halbert of Martin, Ky. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Phillip Ray Flanery; one sister, Gloria Flanery Jones, and one brother, Thomas Ray Flanery, all of Langley, Ky. Age 81, died Saturday, October 19, 2002, in his home. He was born on June 27, 1921, in Martin, Kentucky, the son of William and Clarinda (Johnson) Flannery. He had lived and worked in the Jackson area for 65 years, retiring from the Jackson State Prison in 1977. A member of the Church of Latter Day Saints of the Jackson Ward, Charlie was a National Champion Fiddle player, an Honorary Kentucky Colonel, and a song writer. He liked to collect and make knives. On May 13, 1951, he married Audrey Lennemann and they had six children. Surviving are four children, Clarinda (Paul) Klawitter, John (Tonni) Flannery, all of Pleasant Lake; Patrick (Stephanie) Flannery, of Fort Polk, Louisana; and Mary (Kenneth) Winters, of Jackson. One sister, Susan (Roy) Hagg, of Jackson; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three wives, Audrey Lennemann, Margarethe Stone, and Pauline Hale; two sons, Charles E. Flannery Jr., and baby boy Flannery; six brothers and seven sisters. Funeral Services were Wednesday, October 23, 2002, at 11:00 a.m., from the Caskey-Mitchell Funeral Home, Stockbridge, with Bishop Vern Crawford officiating. She was married to the late Charlie Flannery. She is survived by three sons, James Monroe Flannery of Beaver, Ky., Delbert McArthur Flannery of Anaheim, Ca., and Bobby Joe Flannery of Wheelwright, Ky.; three daughters, Helen Newsome and Wanda Lee Ray, both of Wheelwright; and Vonda Lou Newsome of Beaver, Ky.; one brother, Thomas Little of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Bessie Ratliff of Robinson Creek, Ky. and Mary Murrell of Victorville, Ca.; 27 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, and five step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; one brother, Floyd Little; two sisters, Elsie Roberts and Bertha Roberts; two sons, Troy Lee Flannery, and Charles Edward Flannery; one daughter, Norma Jean Flannery; and four grandchildren. Mary Florence was a graduate of Martin High School and Morehead College. She was a retired teacher, having taught for 23 years at Calvert City Elementary School. She was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and the Calvert City United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, William "Bill" Ford; a daughter, Marilyn Metzger; two grandsons, Evan O"Neal and Sean O"Neal; and one brother, James Aaron Rowe, all of Calvert City. Age, 71 years of age, passed away February 18, 2006, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. He was born January 14, 1935, in Pikeville, the son of the late William Winston Ford, Sarah Virginia Compton Ford, and step-mother, Vera Vinson Ford. He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Makinly Chase Allen. Sonny is survived by his wife, Carolyn Leslie Wright Ford; two daughters: Leslie Ford Howell and husband, Tommy, of Prestonsburg, and Kelli Ford Allen and husband, Stephen, of Senoia, Georgia; and one son, Winston "Winn" Ford III, of Prestonsburg. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Jenna Fannin Platt and husband, Brandon, Mikeal Ford Fannin, Taber Allen and Kison Allen. Mr. Ford graduated from Prestonsburg High School in 1953. He attended Eastern Kentucky State College and Pikeville College. Sonny operated the Winston Ford Company, which specialized in highway contracting for 25 years. He was a foreman with the Elmo Greer and Sons Co., in London. His latest employment was with Mike Branham at M & D Pipeline, Inc. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Prestonsburg, where he served as a deacon. Among other activities he was a member of Zebulon Masonic Lodge No. 273, in Prestonsburg, for 40 years. He was a Shriner with the Oleika Temple in Lexington; was a member of the State Development Council in Frankfort; a member of the Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels; and served six terms as a member of the Prestonsburg City Council. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 22, at noon, at the First Presbyterian Church in Prestonsburg. Visitation was from 3-9 p.m., Tuesday, at Carter Funeral Home, with a Masonic service being held at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the Porter Cemetery. She was killed September 1, 2006, when the International Red Cross vehicle in which she was riding hit a roadside explosive device. FOWARD, Alphonsa Sr.,

Age 68, of Dayton, OH went home to be with the Lord, December 10, 2007. He was born in Wayland, KY to the late Lee Elvin and Corene Foward on January 13, 1939 and was preceded in death by his brother, Printus Foward. He graduated from Roosevelt High School and Grace Apostolic College. Also, he attended Sinclair Community College, Wright State University and Central State University. Moreover, he served his country in the U.S. Navy as a radar technician from 1957-59 and was honorably discharged. He was also a dedicated Civil Servant who retired from DESC after 38 years of service in 1999 with over 3400 hours of unused sick leave. For over 30 years he was a faithful and dedicated Elder of Christ Temple Church where he served as Trustee, Head of the Audiovisual Department and assisted in the church in the Ministry of Helps. He was also a member of the NAACP. He leaves to cherish his memories and celebrate his life, his faithful and loving wife of 44 years, Dr. Gloria J. Foward; children: Dr. Sharon R. (Nathaniel) Johnson, Derrick L. (Jean) Foward, M.C.E., Elder Alphonsa (Felicia) Foward, Jr., Deborah L. Foward, Joy C. Foward and Valerie R. Foward; brothers, Ozell (Faye) Foward and Lovell (Joann) Foward; grandchildren: Barrett Brooks, Jr., Kameron Johnson, Jayson Hayes, Alicia Foward, Ashlee Foward, Derrick Carter; dearly loved by him are Jayme Howell, Letoia Howell, Troy Lloyd, Jr. and Donte Howell; special Goddaughter, Margaret Long; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends, the Christ Temple Church and New Life Church families. FRADY, Dr. Claude Pritchard Jr.

Age, 81, of Bowling Green, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Greenview Hospital. He was born in Wilder, Tennessee, the son of the late Claude P. Frady Sr., and Fannie Hall Frady. He attended Wayland High School and Caney Junior College. He was one of the school"s well known "Caney Crusaders." He continued his education at the Univeristy of Kentucky from 1940-1941. In 1941 he left school to serve his country for four years during World War II, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Following his military service, he returned to school and obtained a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Arts and an Ed.D. at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Frady"s 36-year career as an educator included working as a teacher, principal and basketball coach in the public school systems in Floyd and Knott counties, and teaching English at Caney Junior College. He also worked with the Bureau of School Services at UK from 1963-1968, and served as a professor of Western Kentucky University from 1968, until his retirement in 1982. He was involved in numerous organizations including The Kentucky Association of Secondary School Principals, the Kentucky Association of School Administrators, the Lions Club, the Kiwanis Club, the American Cancer Society, and the Salvation Army. In 1998, Dr. Frady was inducted into the Knott County Hall of Fame, and in September 2000, was named Alumnus of the Year at Alice Lloyd College. He is survived by his wife, Eloise Hall Frady. Other survivors include one daughter, Cathy Ann Hays; two sisters, Dorothy Anderson of Hamilton, Ohio, and Kathryn Whitten of Allen Park, Michigan; a brother, Samuel W. Frady of Wayland; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 1, at 2:30 p.m., at J. C. Kirby & Sons Funeral Home, Bowling Green. Age, 77, of Weeksbury, died Friday, January 6, 2006, at the U.K. Medical Center, Lexington, following an extended illness. Born February 2, 1928, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late Jess and Rosie Collins Dale. She was a retired school teacher, and a member of the Weeksbury Wesleyan Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack D. Fraley. Survivors include two sons: James D. Fraley of Georgetown, and Thomas Douglas Fraley of Dearborne, Michigan; her twin sister, Kathleen Sharp of Sandusky, Ohio; five grandchildren: Jessica Rose Bell, Meghan Lynn Fraley, Heather Renee Fraley, Johnathon Douglas Fraley, and Andrew Michael Fraley; and one step-grandchild, Ezekiel D. Elliott. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers: James Dale and Rex Dale. Funeral services were conducted Monday, January 9, at 11 a.m., at the Weeksbury Community Church, with Bobby Blevins officiating. Born July 3, 1910, in German, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Mary Setser Nunnery. She was a member of the Spurlock Old Regular Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pearl Fraley. Survivors include three sons, Willie C. Age 81, of Prestonsburg, died Thursday, April 22, 1999, at Riverview Manor Nursing Home in Prestonsburg. Born June 5, 1917, in Prestonsburg, s/o Ben and Virgie Hopson Fraley. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First Church of God, Prestonsburg. Survivors include his wife, Vida Wilson Fraley; one daughter, Sue Blackburn of Prestonsburg; sisters, Irene Spradlin and Evelyn Spradlin, both of Prestonsburg, and Martella Ratliff of South Bend, Indiana; one half-brother, Al Fraley of Prestonsburg; one half-sister, Lana Douglas Howard of Commerce Township, Michigan; one stepbrother, Isaac Fitzpatrick of Prestonsburg. Burial was in Richmond Memorial Cemetery in Prestonsburg.

Age, 82, of Cecil, Ohio, formerly of Wayland, died Friday, March 30, 2001, in the Leisure Oaks Nursing Home, Defiance, Ohio. She was born February 26, 1919, in Hueysville, the daughter of the late Frank Cooley and Martha Allen Cooley. She was a member of the Wayland United Methodist Church, and was retired from the Elkhorn Water District. She was preceded in death by her first husband, J. E. Miller. She is survived by her husband, Fred Fraley of Lexington. Other survivors include one daughter, Sherry Lynn Messer of Cecil, Ohio; one brother, Dave Cooley of Wayland; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 2, at 11 a.m., in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, at Martin, with Clergyman Brad Tackett officiating. Burial was in Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel. Age, 81, of Hi Hat, died Wednesday, November 24, 2004, at his residence. Born February 6, 1923, in Ligon, he was the son of the late John D. and Virgie M. Reynolds Fraley. He was a retired coal miner and a World War II veteran. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Juanita Ricker Fraley. Survivors include one son, Don Fraley Jr. and wife, Priscilla, of Hi Hat; two daughters, Sheri Fraley, and Kimberly Fraley, both of Hi Hat, and Kimberli's boyfriend, Ronnie Little; grandchildren: Robbie, Jennifer, Edmand, Jessica, and Michael; and great-grandchildren: Stephanie, Stacy, Jacob, and Jaden. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, James Fraley; two sons, Joe and James M. Fraley, both of Prestonsburg; one daughter, Bonnie Hall of Prestonsburg; two brothers, Ricky Hicks of Liberty Mills, Indiana, and Birchel Ilicks of Thelma; two sisters, Patty Clouse of Prestonsburg and Johanna Maiden of Lexington; and three grandchildren. Age, 69, of Urbana, Ohio, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2006, in Mercy Medical Center, Springfield, Ohio. He was born February 10, 1937, in Prestonsburg, the son of Challie Wallace and Alta Mae (Montgomery) Fraley. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and retired from Navistar International in 1999, having worked more than 34 years. He also worked part-time at the Vintage Roadside Cafe. Jim loved to travel, and enjoyed camping with his family and friends, gardening, and bluegrass music. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. Jim enjoyed history, especially the tales of Simon Kenton, whom he will be buried near in Oak Dale Cemetery. He was a member of the Living Faith Baptist Church of Urbana, and was a member of the Harmony Lodge 8, F&AM. He is survived by his mother, Alta Mae Fraley; his wife, Janice A. (Spurlock) Fraley of Urbana; two sons: Mike (Kim) Fraley and Mark (Lynn) Fraley, both of Urbana; his grandchildren: Jessi, Amber, and Megan Fraley; two great-grandchildren: Gracie Mae and Noah; a brother, Bill Fraley of Columbus; his uncle, Homer Fraley of Florida; and many special friends, and many families. He was preceded in death by his father. A gathering of family and friends was held Sunday, November 19, from 3-6 p.m., in the Vernon Funeral Home, 235 Miami St., Urbana, with Masonic services held Sunday, at 5:45 p.m. Funeral services were held on Monday, November 20, at 1 p.m., in the Living Faith Baptist Church, 2730 E. Age, 81 She died at 8:45am Monday, Jan. 9, 2006 at Lost Creek Care Center, Lima Ohio. She was born March 21, 1924 in Prestonsburg, Ky to John and Cynthia (Prater) Hollbrook. On Nov. 30, 1989, she married Clarence R. Fraley and he survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Glenda (Gary) Scott of Kenton, Judy ( Kenneth) Dyer of Harrod, Karen (Dave) Shirk and Cynthia (Bill) Cook both of Alger; 13 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean Gadie of South Bend, In; two brothers, S. Charles Hollbrook of Alger and Gordon Hollbrook of Waynesfield. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Burieta Conley, Goldie McDaniel, Bertha Mae Spradlin, Edna Shafer, and an infant sister, Pauline; an infant son, Aldred Lee Scott and a brother, Turner Hollbrook. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy at Hi Hat, Ky., and was a retired dry cleaner employee. Born March 22, 1925, at Lackey, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Helen Hart Allen of Garrett, and the granddaughter of the late Rev. Green B. and Eliza Patton Allen. Betty was a graduate of Garrett High School. She moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1973, from Dayton, Ohio. Her husband, Oscar L. Frances, preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, William Randall of Duneden, Florida; several nieces and nephews; a host of cousins, including Gloria M. Osborne of Melbourne, Florida; and many devoted friends. She was retired, a graduate of Midway High School, member of the Lexington Club, Lexington Country Club, Sarasota University Club, and Pine Shores Presbyterian Church. Survivors include two daughters, Browning Tinker of Castle Rock, Co., Tina Craft of Centennial Co.; one son, Joe Craft of Tulsa, Ok.; one step-son, Bill Francis of Prestonsburg; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Franklin. Survivors include: a son and daughter-in-law: Larry Dean and Carol Hobbs of Shanks, West Virginia; two daughters and sons-in-law: Brenda and Terry Shelton of McDowell, and Patricia and Ted Meade of Louisville; two sisters: Jeanette Hooper of Martin, and Thelma Woodward of Benton; four grandchildren: Joel Hobbs, Nathanial Meade, Todd Meade, and Jennifer Mezzanotte; and five great-grandchildren: Berkleigh Morgan Mezzanotte, Nikola Mezzanotte, Ryan Hobbs, Tyler Lindsey, and Allyson Nicole Meade. Mr. Frasure was a teacher in the Floyd County School System for 16 years, a Professor and Guidance Counselor at the Prestonsburg Community College for 26 years, a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW, Prestonsburg, Kentucky, and an avid sportsman, golfer, dirt track racing fan and U.S. Army World War II veteran. Age 90, of Leesburg, Florida, formerly of Floyd County, widow of Frank Fultz, passed away, Saturday, March 8, 2003, at the Avante at Leesburg, Florida. She was born September 24, 1912, in Boons Camp, the daughter of the late Lewis Sammons and Sally Music Sammons. She was a former secretary, and was a member of the Church of Christ, Leesburg, Florida. Survivors include one daughter, Wanda Clevinger of Leesburg, Florida; one brother, John P. Sammons of Martin; two sisters, Ada Mollett of Meally, and Ruby Hughes of East Point; four grandchildren, Dwayne Fultz, David Fultz, Keith Clevinger, and Karen Rickey; six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services for Lillian Margaret Fultz will be conducted Thursday, March 13, at 10:30 a.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with Clergyman Greg Johnson officiating. FURMAN, Eva Anna Mitchell

Age 88, of Betsy Layne, died Saturday, December 26, 1998, at her residence, following a brief illness, Born on January 2, 1910, in Jennings, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late John Calvin and Edith Sarah Moyer Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Clarence Hamilton Furman. Survivors include four daughters, Mariedith Joy Meade of Betsy Layne; Elizabeth Susan Furman of Betsy Layne; Mary Anna Blevins of Clyde, Ohio and Christine Furman of Betsy Layne; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, December 29, at 1 p.m., at the Pikeville Wesleyan Church, with Rev. Keith Biddle and Tracy Patton officiating. Burial was in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, at Ivel.

FYFFE, Paul G.

Age, 65, former owner of WSIP AM and FM radio station in Paintsville, died November 14, 2000, at Three Rivers Medical Center in Louisa, following a heart attack. He was a driving force in bringing professional baseball to eastern Kentucky, when the New York Yankees based a farm team in Paintsville in 1978. The baseball field at Johnson Central High School is named in his honor. He was born November 10, 1935, the son of the late Normal and Ruie Franklin Fyffe. He was a graduate of the former Flat Gap High School and attended Morehead State University. He worked at WSIP for several years before buying the station in 1960. He sold it in the late 1980s. At the time of his death, he was a sales representative for Appalachian Wireless. He is survived by three sons, Mike Fyffe, Barry Fyffe and Tony Fyffe, all of Paintsville; and one brother, James W. Fyffe of Montgomery, Alabama. Funeral services were November 16, at the Preston Funeral Home Chapel in Paintsville, with Terry Reffett officiating. (FCT'S)
