ACKERMAN, William "Bill" Edward III

Age, 62, of Richmond, lost his 10-year battle with cancer on Friday, March 23, 2007. The disease finally destroyed his body, but never his spirit and zeal for life. Bill is survived by Dianna, his wife of 34 years; two sons: William "Billy" Edward (Erin Jones) Ackerman IV, and Terry David (Sarah Talbot) Ackerman; two beautiful granddaughters: Hannah Joy and Sophie Grace; his mom, Virginia Potts Ackerman; a sister, Susan (Clifford) King; his aunt and uncle, Bob and Louise Gray; a special brother-in-law, Delbert Ousley; a loving mother-in-law, Edith Ousley; seven nieces and one nephew; countless young ladies, whom he called daughters; and many other great-nieces, nephews, friends, and family. He was preceded in death by his father, William Edward Ackerman Jr., and his father-in-law, Jimmie Ousley. Bill was born December 14, 1944, in Louisville. He was among the first graduating class of Fairdale High School, he graduated from the University of Louisville, and was employed by the F.D.I.C. for 15 years, and several area banks for 15 more years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, and served as deacon, and held several other volunteer and leadership positions. He was also an avid golfer, card player, and lover of God"s people. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 26, at the First Baptist Church, with Rev. Bill Fort, Curtis Warf and Dan Bruce officiating. Pallbearers were: Scott Althauser, Larry Bailey, Roland Barnett, David Bohannon, Ron Boyd, Tom Bratcher, Oliver Cosby, Bobby Gray, Bill McCoy, Joe Miller, and Duane Parsons. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of the First Baptist Church, and members of the co-ed 6 Sunday School Class. Visitation was from 5 p.m.-9 p.m., Sunday, March 25, at the First Baptist Church. Age, 70, of Prestonsburg, died Monday, June 13, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital, in Huntington, West Virginia. Born July 11, 1934, in Floyd County, he was the son of the late Hargus and Carrie Whitaker Adams. He was a disabled coal miner. He is survived by his wife, Versie Mullins Adams. Other survivors include a son, Zyndall Adams (Denise); three daughters: Ethel Jean Adams (Henry), Tammy Adams Marsillett, and Freda Kay Watkins (Jimmy), all of Prestonsburg; two brothers: Merel Adams (Shirley) of Burkett, Indiana, and Ellis Adams of Albion, Indiana; four sisters: Helen Reynolds (Bill) of Plymouth, Indiana, Mary Beatrice Watkins (Bill), Opal Arnett (Henry Jr.), and Oma Jean Hall (Tom), all of Silver Lake, Indiana; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: William Joe Adams, Cecil Adams, Henry Adams, and James Adams; and one sister, Marie Adams. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 16, at 1 p.m., at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with Malcolm Slone and Jimmy Price officiating. Age 81, of McDowell, entered enternal life on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at the Appalachian Regional Hospital, Hazard. She was born in Minnie on August 4, 1925 a daughter of the Late Lizzie Turner Hall and Ed Hall. She was a long time employee of McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital and was baptized into the Old Beaver Regular Baptist Church on April 15, 1989. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Sammy D. Adams, three sisters, Imogene Hall Cole, Beatrice Turner and Euka Turner Hicks; and one brother, Linville "Bub" Turner. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Tom Adams, of McDowell, three sons, Ronnie D. (Tootsie) Adams, Valrico, Florida, Tommy N. (Marrietta) Adams, of Drift, Gregory D. (Judy) Adams of Prestonsburg, one daughter, Donna G. (Jim) Enderly of Willard, Ohio; one daughter-in-law, Diana Adams of McDowell, one sister, Jacqueline Hall of Drift, one brother William C. Age 59, of Wooster, Ohio, formerly of Grethel, passed away Monday, June 30, 2003, at the Castle Nursing Home, in Millersburg, Ohio. Born July 15, 1943, at Teaberry, he was the son of the late Milford Adams and Lucy Cross Adams, and the step-son of the late Lizzie Adams. He was a former coal miner and a member of the Regular Baptist Church. Survivors include: two brothers, Milford Adams Jr., of Wooster, Ohio, and Walker Adams, of Lorain, Ohio; and, one sister, Ella White, of Jackson, Ohio. In addition to his parents and step-mother, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy Adams and Walter Adams, and one sister, Rosie White. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 3, at 11:00 a.m., at the Pilgrim Home Regular Baptist Church, at Grethel. Regular Baptist ministers will officiate. She was born January 4, 1915, at Fords Branch, the daughter of the late Reff and Mary Lockhart Castle. Fannie was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Lou Pennington of Romulus, Michigan, Ethel Curry of Melvin, and Joyce Burke of Wheelwright; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Adams Jr.; one son, Bobby Adams; five brothers and six sisters. Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 1, at 1 p.m., at the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church with Orville Burke, John Burke and Eddie Harley officiating. Survivors include a son, James Ellis Adams of Prestonsburg; a daughter, Sharon Kay Holbrook of Prestonsburg; one brother, Sam Manuel of Prestonsburg; two sisters, Molly Holland of Salyersville, and Lucy Prater of Claypool, Indiana; and two grandchildren, Sherry Lynn Holbrook and Mary Annis Adams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Georgie Adams. Age 84, of Prestonsburg, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at UK Medical Center in Lexington. Born May 20, 1913 at Coley, he was the son of the late Malcomb and Lula Sparks Adams. He was a former equipment operator for Floyd County. He was a member of the Chestnut Grove United Baptist Church, where he was also a deacon. He was a member of the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Prater Adams; one daughter, Charlene Baldridge of Prestonsburg; five sons, Larry Adams of David, Danny Adams, Donnie Adams, Paul Adams and Terry Adams, all of Prestonsburg; one sister, Pearl Prater of Warsaw, Indiana; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. ., Burial was in the Bob Prater Cemetery at Brainard.

ADAMS, Otto

Age, 74, of Monitor, Washington, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at his home following an extended illness. He was born December 5, 1926, the son of Daniel and Cynthia Manuel Adams at Prestonsburg. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Islands, and Korea, he was a member of the American Legion Post 10 and a member of the VFW Post 902. He was past commander of the American Legion and VFW. He was Chef de Gare of the Forty & Eight Voiture Locale No. 90, and board member of the Apple Valley T.V. Association, a volunteer for the V.A. medical bus, and an American Legion field service volunteer. He owned an orchard in Monitor. He is survived by his wife, Vina Shepherd Adams. Other survivors include one son, Dan Adams of Monitor; one daughter, Joanne Palmer of East Wenatchee; one sister, Alma Rice of Walkerton, Indiana; and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 29, 10 a.m., at Telford"s Chapel of the Valley, at Monitor, with chaplain Jim Uecker officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Forty & Eight nurses scholarship fund. Age, 66, of Ivel, died Saturday, January 28, 2006, at the Knott County Nursing Home, Hindman. Born December 4, 1939, in Ivel, she was the daughter of the late Marrs and Ella Lewis Spradlin. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mac Henry Allen. Survivors include two sons: Henry Allen (wife, Shayla) of Jacksonville, Florida; Charlie Allen (wife, Carrie) of Salyersville; one daughter, Carol Harper (husband, Steve) of Jacksonville, Florida. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Gladys Hancock and her twin sister. Age, 87, of East Point, Ky., passed away Sunday, August 12, 2001, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, Ky., after a brief illness. A Floyd County native, he was the son of the late W.C. (Bill) and Angie Johnson Adams. He was a graduate of Pikeville College with a degree in teaching. He retired from Marvin Music Gulf Distributor Inc. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, a member of Zebulon Lodge No. 273, F&AM, Prestonsburg, and a member of the United Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Imogene Adams. He is survived by two daughters, Gloria Jeanne (William) Prater of Rineyville, Ky., and Janet Carrol (Leo) Tackett of East Point, Ky.; one sister, Mary Jane Hawk of Lima, Ohio; two granddaughters, Lana Renee Mitchell of Rineyville, Ky., and Tamatha Kay (Jeff) Ratliff of East Point, Ky.; three great-grandchildren, Shae Emerson Mitchell, William Alexander Mitchell, and Matthew Charles Mitchell, all of Rineyville, Ky. She was a member of the Praise Assembly Church in Prestonsburg, and was retired from the dietary department at McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital. She is survived by her husband, James (Buster) Addis. Other survivors include a son and daughter-in-law: Larry and Rolanda Addis of McDowell; a daughter, Vonda Kendrick of McDowell; two brothers: Herbert Jones and Curt Jones, both of Michigan; two sisters: Luna Combs of Prestonsburg, and Verna Hall of Michigan; four grandchildren: Brian Addis, Anthony Dale Kendrick, Dustin Addis, and Tera Addis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and six sisters: Claude Jones, Dina Nickles, Lena Allen, Lona Jones, Lina Stumbo, and Verda Shiflitt, and Allie Jones. Born December 6, 1912, in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Sarah Lewis Hunt. She was a retired restaurant cook, and a member of the Mare Creek Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Akers. Survivors include one son, Rex R. Ross of East Point; two brothers, Harve Hunt of Tram, and George Hunt of Mare Creek; three sisters, Ruby Hunt of Lavonia, Michigan, and Callie Cecil and Ocie Pelphrey, both of Clearwater, Florida; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Roland Hunt, John Hunt and Thomas Jay Hunt; and a sister, Eulivene Gunnels. Age 73, of Fairfax, Va., passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2002, in the Northern Virginia Memorial Hospital of Arlington, Va. Mr. Allen was a native of Hueysville, Ky., and son of the late Wayne and Mallie Craft Allen. After graduating from Maytown High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force, from 1946 to 1949, with an overseas assignment in Okinawa. While still assigned to the Air Force, he was selected for special training and assigned to the Defense Communications Agency as a telecommunications specialist. Later, as a civilian, he worked at the Pentagon in various capacities within the communications field. Retiring from the government in 1983 after 36 years, he then became a consultant to Booz-Allen and Hamilton, where he worked for eight years, retiring in 1995. Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Sexton Allen of Joplin Mo.; sister Ione Amelia Allen of Hueysville, Ky.; brothers, Thomas Jacob Allen, and William Kenneth Allen, both of Prestonsburg, Ky., and Clarence Edward Allen of Chesapeake, Va. Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Patricia K. Allen of Fairfax, Va.; sister Anna Lena Allen of Cincinnati, Oh.; brothers, Volney D. Allen of Langley, Ky., Nelson R. ALLEN, Rev. Andrew

Age 93, of Lima (and formerly of Kenton) died Sunday, October 20, 2002, at St. Rita"s Medical Center, Lima, Ohio. He was born on November 18, 1908, in Waldo, Kentucky, to Ramey and Mary (Rowe) Allen. In 1929, he married Teda Marshall who preceded him in death. On October 22, 1956, he married Lillian E. Holbrook, who survives. Rev. Allen was an ordained Baptist minister, having been ordained in January, 1932. He pastored churches in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. He loved the Lord with all of his heart. He mentored many young ministers. He loved preaching and Bible teaching. He also loved children and often baked cookies for neighborhood children as well as children in the family. He appreciated the kind and loving care he received from his home health aide, Terry Kilgore, during the past year and a half. He was employed at Rockwell International from 1950 until his retirement in December, 1973. He had also owned and operated a general store in Royalton, Kentucky, prior to his move to Ohio in 1944. Other survivors include two sons, Warnie Allen of McGuffey, Ohio, Timothy S. "Tim" Allen of Lima, Ohio; three daughters, Roberta (Ezra) Moore, Brenda (Thomas) Keller and Catherine D. "Cathy" (Stephen) Potter, all of Lima, Ohio; and one sister, Grace Pinks of McGuffey; six grandchildren, Rose (Don) Webb of Alger, Suzanne Hoover of Kenton, Linda (Robert) O"Brien, Jonathan Ridgeway, Jessika Yoakam, and Andrew "Andy" Allen all of Lima, Ohio; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter and two step-great-great-grandchildren. He was born January 30, 1921, in Printer, the son of the late Charles S. Allen Sr., and Lucy Crisp Allen. He was a member of the Old Time Baptist Church, in Printer, the United Mine Worker Association, a Kentucky Colonel, and worked in construction, building tipples. Survivors, in addition to his wife, Alpha, include three daughters: Mickie Allen Meade, and her hsuband, Denver of Printer; Lucy Allen of Tampa, Florida; and Margie, her husband, Gregory Thomerson of Lexington; five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Age 84, of Langley, Ky., passed away Monday, October 1, 2001, at the Highlands Regional Medical Center, Prestonsburg, Ky., following a long illness. She was born November 18, 1916, in Langley, Ky., the daughter of the late Dr. J. H. Allen and Bertha May Allen. She was a teacher for the Floyd County School System for 30 years. She played basketball and coached for the Maytown Wildcats, and went to the state tournament as a ball player. She was owner of Hindman Drug Store for several years, and worked in an airplane factory in Michigan during World War II, where she was part of the group known as "Rosy the Riverters. "Survivors include special nieces and nephews, Teddi Allen, Elizabeth Allen, Margaret A. Vaughn, Peggy Sue Pollard, Steve Allen, Bob Vaughan and Dick Vaughan. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. Claude L. Allen, and George Edward Allen; and one sister, Peggy Jo Vaughn. Memorial services will be conducted Wednesday, October 3, 2001, at 1 p.m., at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, Ky., with the Rev. Jamie Williams officiating. ALLEN, Hubert Gene

Age 79, formerly of Manchester, died December 12, 2007, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center following a short illness. Born in Hueysville, Kentucky, on October 16, 1928, he was the son of Morton (Billy) and Virginia Webb Allen. He attended Maytown High School and graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in agriculture and later received a masters degree from Eastern Kentucky University in counseling. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served in the occupation of Europe following WWII. He worked for Inland Gas Company, later Columbia Gas, at Midas, Kentucky, for 17 years. In 1970, he became the Agricultural Extension Service Agent for Clay County until he retired in 1992. He was a long-time board member and a former Chairman of Kentucky Mountain Housing Development Corporation (KMHDC), a non-profit housing and community development organization established in 1973 to provide homes for low-income and very-low-income families in Southeastern Kentucky. He was also a former board member and Chairman of the Clay county Public Library. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cloteen Conley Allen; one son, Stephen Gene Allen of Winchester, and three grandchildren, Jacob Pierce Allen of Richmond, and Yana Marie Allen and Nicolai Conner Allen of St. Paul Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his son Scott Webb Allen in March 2007. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 15, 2007, in the Hall Funeral Home Chapel at Martin, Kentucky. John Allen of Prestonsburg, former commonwealth attorney (Floyd and Knott counties), 31st Judicial District, 1939-1946), as well as prominent businessman in oil, gas, coal, real estate, auto dealership, theatre and other ventures, including being one of the original founders of the First Guaranty Bank of Martin, Ky., and the Superior Publishing Company, now the Floyd County Times, also constructing the following buildings: Fountain Korner, United Fuel/Strand Theatre and "Old" Floyd County Times as well as purchasing the towns of David and Wheelwright in Floyd County and other build-ings/homes in Prestonsburg and Sugarloaf. He was a practicing attorney since 1933 until 1999. John passed away at his home at 637 N. Arnold Avenue on Saturday, July 13. He was 94 years old. Allen (Barbara Dotson) of Prestonsburg, and Stephen Reynolds Allen (Terri Hyden) of Peyton, Colorado; two daughters, Judith Ann Allen Colvin McCreary (Robert) of Lexington, and Mary Alice Allen Leslie (David Richard "Dickie") of Prestonsburg. He was affectionately called "granddaddy Allen" by 16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. John was one of ten children born to the late John and Minta Salisbury Allen of Bosco, now known as Hueysville, on August 7, 1907. He attended public schools in Floyd County, then attended the St. Thomas College Academy, St. Paul, Mn., and the John C. C. Mayo College at Paintsville, Ky. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School. He was a lawyer and businessman from 1933, until he finally retired at the age of 91. He married Alice June Reynolds, daughter of W.J. (William James "Squire") and Rebecca Mayo Reynolds from Bucks Branch, Martin, Ky. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on July 25, 2001, prior to Alice"s passing on October 3, 2001. They raised their six children on the farm at Sugarloaf, Ky., and later at the homeplace (637 N. Arnold Avenue), Prestonsburg. John and Alice were members of the First United Methodist Church in Prestonsburg. He was a member of the Floyd County, Kentucky, and American Bar Associations. John Allen was an astute businessman and a wonderful, loving, generous father, husband and "Granddaddy Allen." He will be missed every day the rest of the children"s lives. He was also preceded in death by his parents, John and Minta Salisbury Allen; four brothers, David Murph, Clifford, James Richard, and Robert; five sisters, Byrd Cooley, Elizabeth Collins Cadenhead, Jemima Schmate, Mary ("Sis") Salisbury, and Rosilee ("Sug") Hubbard Sutherland, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Of Prestonsburg, former Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Group Manager for eastern Kentucky, until he retired. In 1972 he entered the Internal Revenue Services audit division in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In 1977, he advanced to group manager, with offices in Daytona Beach, Florida, covering the Daytona Beach and Ocala, Florida area. From 1981 until he retired, except a one-year assignment at College Station, Texas, he had been group manager for eastern Kentucky, with offices in Paintsville, Pikeville and Prestonsburg. Johnny, 68, passed away July 31, 2005, at his 228 N. Arnold Avenue home. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice Reynolds Allen. He is survived by two daughters: Johni Lynn and Jane Ann, whose mother is Judy Musick Allen; one step-daughter, Jessie, whose mother is Jane Allen; one grandchild, John Wesley Jakobson, whose mother is Joni Lynn. He is survived by three brothers: Robert R. Allen (Sarah B. "Sally" Burchett) and David D. Allen (Barbara D. Allen), both of Prestonsburg, and Stephen R. Allen (Terri S. Hyden) of Rexford, Kansas. He was one of ten children born to the late Wayne and Mallie Craft Allen on October 27, 1932, in Hueysville, in Floyd County. He served as Greenup County March of Dimes chairman for seven years; was honored as "Outstanding Alumnus of Maytown High School" (now Allen Central High School in Floyd County); was a well-known high school and collegiate basketball official in the OVC, SEC, and KIAC Conferences, 1960-1979; was a veteran of the US Navy, serving from 1952-56, during the Korean Conflict; and was a member of the Flatwoods Church of Christ. He was a graduate of Maytown High School in Floyd County, BA, MA and Rank 1 degrees; Honorary Doctor's degree in public law, from Morehead State University; former Rowan County High School teacher and basketball coach; served as school principal in the Russell Independent School system from 1960-1994; past president and executive secretary of E.K.E.A.; member of the board of directors of Eastern Kentucky Education Association. Served as state senator - 18 District - 1973-1991; Outstanding Freshman Legislator in 1974 by AFL-CIO; chosen Most Colorful Senator, 1976, 1978, 1980, and 1982 sessions by the Kentucky Press Corps; chosen one of the Men of the Sessions in 1984, by WAVE-TV, Louisville, Ky.; sponsored and successfully gained passage of nine educational reform bills in 1984 session; represented the state of Kentucky on the Commission of the States on education; appointed to the Task Force for Education by senate leadership, summer 1989; Task Force on Education Reform- Finance Committee, 1990-1998; chairman of the Senate Education Committee, 1976-1990; chairman site-based decision making council, Bellefonte school; member of the Prichard Committee Alliance; member of the Greenup County Housing Authority; was presently serving as a Greenup County Commissioner since 1999; was currently serving on the board of directors of the Ashland Alliance since 1999; and was inducted into the Russell High School Hall of Fame in 2004. He is survived by his wife, Eliza Justice; two daughters, Carolyn Eldridge of Albion, Laura Allen of Potterville; four sons, Terry Allen, Carl Allen, Richard Allen and Jimmy Allen, all of Albion; two step-sons, Chester Tackett of Albion, William "Ed" Tackett of Homer; two sisters, Helena Edmond of Woodhaven, Micky Thomas of Virginia; three brothers, James Allen of Betsy Layne, Vernon Allen of Albion and Willard Allen of Circleville, Ohio; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was retired from Controls Corp., North Manchester, IN. On Aug 24, 1943, she married Grover C. Allen; he survives. Age 71, of Marshall, Michigan, died Sunday evening, April 17, 2005. Mrs. Arizmendi was born on January 15, 1934, in Spurlock, Kentucky, the daughter of Will and Lula (Hale) Shepherd. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Austreberto; children: Sarita (Dale) Parlin, Arturo (Cindy) Arizmendi, Wanda (Jeff) Arizmendi Baker, Laurie (Tony) Gladstone, and Therese (Steve) Pattinson; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sisters: Vina Adams, Alice Briggs, Emma Moreno, Lila (Kenneth) Lewis, and Lora (Donald) Jordan; brothers: Johnnie Shepherd, Tommy (Alice) Shepherd, Bill Shepherd, Holbert (Linda) Shepherd, Earl (Mary) Shepherd, and Jack (Kay) Shepherd; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Henry Shepherd. Services to celebrate her life will be held at 10:30, Thursday, April 21, at the Craig K. Age, 79, of LaRue, Ohio, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at her residence. Born on January 18, 1921, in McDowell, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Anna Hall Bentley. She graduated from McDowell High School in 1938; attended Alice Lloyd Caney College in Caney Creek; then taught school in Kentucky. Her husband, David W. Armstrong, preceded her in death. She is survived by three sons, Ronald David Armstrong of Marion, Rodney Armstrong of LaRue and Roger England of Marion; two daughters, Jennifer McCrary of LaRue and Shirley Mitchell of Columbus; two sisters, Myrtle Newsome of Marion and Magdalene Little of Columbus; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Burial in the LaRue Cemetery, under the direction of Stofcheck Funeral Home.

ARNETT, Bob Kash Sr.

Died at 4:15 am Sunday, Jan 15, 2006 at Hardin Memorial Hospital, Kenton Ohio. He was born April 17, 1917 in Salyersville, Ky. to Sam and Nan (Salyers) Arnett. On Oct. 10, 1935, he married Nellie Risner and she preceded him in death on April 17, 1960. He then married Katie Shepherd on Oct. 20, 1982 and she preceded him in death on July 28, 2005. Surviving are four sons: Elwood (Nancy) Arnett and Donald (Ethel) Arnett, both of Alger and Richard (Julie) Arnett and Bob Kash (DeAnna) Arnett Jr., both of Harrod; two stepsons, Ray Fields of Pennsylvania and Edward Ray (Charlotte) Shepherd of Alger. Six Stepdaughters, Patty Myer of Lima, Lois (Robert) May of Columbus, Lorrene (Ron) Waddle of Roundhead, Lodena Joseph and Branda (Eugene) Pitts both of Maumee and Wanda (Robert) Bratton of Genoa; 15 grandchildren, 37 Step-Grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 66 step-great-grandchildren, and 5 setp-great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ollie Arnett; a grandson; two sisters, Ethel Pugh and Eunice Arnett and five brothers, Green, Troy, Branch, Willie, and Elliott Arnett. He worked for Ohio Steel Company in Lima mostly as a truck driver. He was a member of the Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God in Alger, Ohio. Services were held at 11am Wednesday at the Quickstep Pentecostal Church of God, Alger, by Pastor Bob Dye. Burial will be in the Preston Cemetery, Alger.

Age, 90, of Prestonsburg, died Thursday, May 5, 2005, at the U.K. Medical Center, in Lexington. Born May 8, 1914, in West Prestonsburg, she was the daughter of the late Shelby Banks Wallen and Belle Gearheart Wallen. She was a retired postal clerk, and a member of New Bethel Assembly of God, in Salyersville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe H. Arnett. Survivors include two sons: Joseph Jackson Arnett of Mt. Washington, and Glenn Phillip Arnett of Reston, Virginia; one daughter, Lolita Ann King of Prestonsburg; eight grandchildren, Alan, Patrick, Dwayne, Joey, Christina, Matthew, Cathi and Lesli; ten great-grandchildren: Collin, Benjamin, J.W., Brett, Zach, Nick, Kimberly, James, Ryan, and Autumn. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers: Paul Wallen, Joe Wallen, and two infant brothers; one sister, Annie Montgomery; and one grandson, Richard. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 9, at 2 p.m., at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, in Martin, with Arthur (Sam) Smith officiating. She was born January 27, 1921, at Lawton, Ok., a daughter of the late Albert and Anna Lee (Wells) Dotson. She worked as a waitress and for the U.S. Shoe Factory and American Standard, in Prestonsburg, Ky., and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Prestonsburg, Ky. She was married to Charley Arnett who precedes her in death. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Charlotte Williams of Means, Ky., Mrs. Bonnie Daly of Evansville, Ind.; two brothers, Mr. Orville Dotson, Mr. Lewis Dotson, both of Prestonsburg, Ky.; and two sisters, Mrs. Mabel Honeycutt and Mrs. Susie Burchett, both of Prestonsburg, Ky., five grandaughters and four great-grandchildren. ARROWOOD, William "Bill" Jr.

Age 89, of Drift, Ky., husband of the late Ruth Turner Arrowood, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2001, at the Riverview Health Care Center, Prestonsburg, Ky. He was born October 4, 1911, in Meally, Ky., the son of the late Willie K. Arrowood and Rose Preston Arrowood. Mr. Arrowood was a retired businessman. He operated four businesses in the Drift area. He ran an auto parts store in Martin, a Standard Oil service station, a cafe/ newsstand and a restaurant/ bus stop. In 1946, he purchased the Morrell Supply Company, Prestonsburg, Ky., and renamed the company Wm. Arrowood Hardware Company, which he operated, along with his wife, for nearly 30 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Irene Cole Memorial, Prestonsburg, Ky., a former member of the Floyd County Chamber of Commerce, a life member of Zebulon Lodge, No. 273, and a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include one son, Larry Arrowood, Brentwood, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Julie Arrowood Edwards, William Robert Arrowood; and one great-grandchild, Justin Keith Edwards. Age, 88, of Irvine, died Friday, March 29, after an extended illness. Born October 18, 1913, in Floyd County, she was a daughter of the late Americus McCullough and Lorena Agnes Harmon Badgett. She graduated from Prestonsburg High School and attended Pikeville College for two years. She taught at Lower Little Paint School in East Point before marrying James T. Auxier on May 9, 1936. He preceded her in death in 1977. To this union were born five children: Thomas, Peggy, Patricia, Larry and Mary Jane. She was a homemaker and an active member of Irvine United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Philathea Sunday School class, the Christmas Craft Group, and the Twin City Homemaker"s Club. Visitation was held from 6-9 p.m., Saturday, at Lewis Funeral Home in Irvine, and from 2 p.m., until the time of the service, Sunday, at the church. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens in West Irvine. Pallbearers were Steward Ray Horne, Greg Shackelford, Brent Shackelford, Patrick Nelson, Charles Clark, Charles Bowling, James T. Auxier II, and Travis Auxier. Honorary pallbearers are the Twin City Homemakers Club, the Philathea Sunday School class, the O.P. Smith Sunday School class, and the Christmas Craft Group. Josephine was a wonderful Christian mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and had many special friends. She enjoyed cooking, helping with church bazaars, having family dinners and get-togethers, sewing, and was a gifted quiltmaker. She also loved participating in her homemaker"s club and working at the county fair. Her greatest asset was making you feel comfortable in her home, the great dinners she hosted and the pleasure she derived from having you there.
