Boone's Name on Cliff, head of Miller's Creek, KY.
Miller's Creek, Estill Co., KY., Feb. 22, 1886
L. C. Draper
Dr Sir:
Since the correspondence we have had relative to Col. Boone, this whole community, as I have before stated, seem to understand the nature of our correspondence.
And I still learn more about Boone. A. Kelly tells me that there is a sharp pinnacle of rocks on the head of Miller's Creek, not far from Wm. Smith's house, Daniel Boone's name is cut and two others with him, and dates and everything visable and plain. It is a sand stone cliff; it's not far from Old Indian rock house, known in this country as the Ash Cave--which has been extensively dug into. The dead were buried in those ashes, and many human bones were found all sizes. The moss was raised, and there those names were found, I understand.
Wm. Smith's post office is Patsey, Lee Co., KY.
If not too late for your purpose, I will draw you a diagram of Miller's Creek and the Rock.
Yours,
E. P. Benton
