"What's New in Boone County!"
November 2006 Updates:
- I've been adding family group sheets, surnames and obits to the site all summer, but I haven't been updating this page. My appologies, my real job has been very demanding this past year. I have been taking pictures of cemeteries all summer as I have had time - or it wasn't raining!
- Completed a transcription of the Sand Run Baptist Church Cemetery with pictures. I began taking them early spring and just completed them the end of October.
- A few pictures of the Petersburg Cemetery were submitted by Martha Watson.
- Completed a transcription of the Peeno (2) Cemetery with pictures. This was completed in May 2006.
- Updated the Marshall Family Cemetery located on Gunpowder Road in Union to the new cemetery page format in October 2006. Somehow my links to Michael Marshall's pages were broken. When he contacted me to let me know he could not find them, I decided to move his pictures and documentation to the same format as the other cemeteries.
- At this point, I still do not have the Hopeful Lutheran Church cemetery completed. I have the entire front half to photograph and quite a few from the back section to post to the website. My appologies, I plan to get this completed this winter.
- Family Group Sheets:
Charles Gregory, Emma Garnett;
Isaac Jackson, Miranda Hall;
John Mason, Nancy Jack;
James Thomas, Elizabeth Bettis
March 2006 Updates:
- I have been working on a new project for Historical Markers in Boone County. There are only 13 markers and I currently have 5 left to photograph. The link to this page is under the Boone Links index page and you can find the web page here.
- Updated the Zachary Baker Family Cemetery with new pictures. I visited the cemetery on March 5, 2006.
- 2 new family group sheets have been added this month: James K. BOTTS and Joseph Gaines BOTTS.
August 2005 Updates:
- New pictures for the Boone County Cemeteries project. Hamilton-Chambers, Beaverlick Baptist and pictures in a folder for 1/2 of the Hopeful Church Cemetery. There are currently about 1,115 pictures in the folder for Hopeful Church - and I'm only half-done! Remember that if you are looking for someone, I am naming the files for the husband only - there may be a husband and wife on that file.
- A new newspaper link was added to the Boone County Links page so that I can separate the different newspaper articles by the name of the newspaper. A new transcription was added for the Boone County Banner.
July 2005 Updates:
- New pictures for the Boone County Cemeteries project. Since I have so many pictures and not as much time to get them posted, I will be adding a link to the folder where the pictures are stored so that you can see them as soon as I take them. I will be updating the website as quickly as possible. So look for the camera icon and then FOLDER under the name of the Cemetery for a quick peek. Please let me know if you have obituaries for any of the people buried in Boone Co. Cemeteries, I will be more than happy to add them to the pages.
- Obits have been added for Dennis Turner, Union/Rice Cemetery; David Miller, Hughes Chapel Cemetery; and Minnie Jarman, Hebron Lutheran Church Cemetery.
- New Family Group Sheets have been added.
June 2005 Updates:
- More pictures are being added for the Boone County Cemeteries project. All the pictures have been taken at Hughes Chapel Cemetery and about 60 still need to be posted. Beaverlick Christian Church Cemetery pictures have been completed and I am beginning to get them on-line. I just started taking pictures at Hopeful Lutheran Church Cemetery. (LOL! I can take the pictures faster than I can get them posted!) This will probably take a long time to get completed so please be patient.
Also - Good News: The Boone County Library (Scheben Branch) has printed a map with the locations of 196 cemeteries in Boone County. I have updated the index on this site to correspond with the naming conventions of the Library's map. The numbers in the right hand column are the numbers that have been assigned to each cemetery on the Library map. Since there are several cemeteries listed on this site that are not listed on the map, you may see NL (not listed) in the right hand column. I have not yet determined if these are known cemeteries with a different name, or if they are cemeteries that did not make the Library's list. CALL THE LIBRARY TO FIND OUT HOW TO GET YOUR COPY OF THE MAP. 859-384-5550.
- Surnames have been added this month.
- Family Group Sheets have been added this month.
May 2005 Updates:
- I am currently adding pictures for the Boone County Cemeteries project. I purchased a new digital camera this year and have been busy visiting cemeteries and posting the headstones on this site. I have completed 3 cemeteries so far: Union Rice Cemetery, Rev. William Carpenter Cemetery and I am currently about 2/3 complete with Hughes Chapel Cemetery.
If you know of a cemetery that is not listed on the Boone County Cemetery index, please let me know where the cemetery is and directions to get there. I will be happy to take pictures and document the gravesites.
- There have been several family photos added in the past few months for surnames Finnell and Gregory.
November 2004 Updates:
- The pictures are starting to roll in for the Boone County Cemeteries project. I have already updated some of the links with new pages. Some pages have pictures, some are waiting for submissions - or the opportunity to take the pictures myself.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE - send in those pictures!!!
September 2004 Updates:
- GREAT NEWS! We now have an Assistant County Coordinator, Lorelei Roberts. Lorelei lives in Boone County and will be helping me with transcriptions and my Cemetery project. It's wonderful to have someone to help and bring in new ideas! By the way, Lorelei and I just found out that we are related through the Roberts and Jackson families.
- NEW! Stories about Boone County Residents.
- New link on the Boone County Links page under Birth Records. Boone County Births From Contributors to the Boone County web page
- The Death Records for 1926 were missing the Last names column. I have corrected this error. If you were looking for information there, please check back.
August 2004 Updates:
- I have created a new look for the Surnames page.
- I have updated the Bulletin Board with September through December Boone County events.
- I have changed the email address for the Boone County website. Most of the links have been updated, but if you see one that goes to ureach.com, click on my name at the bottom of the page and it will take you to the new one at yahoo.com. I was having problems with the size of my email box when people were sending me pictures, now I have 100 mb of space. If I fill that one up, I have another account at gmail (Google) with 1000 mb. So now I'm READY for your pictures!
- We've had 140 names added to the Family Group Sheets. Please submit your family sheets now!
- Added new steamboat links to the Brasher family page. Having grown up in Ludlow on the river, I have a facination for the steamboats. We used to ride the Avalon from the landing in Bromley to Coney Island in the early 60's for Ludlow Day at Coney. I remember the ride only cost $.50. We could hear the calliope all over town as the boat came up the river and we'd run down the street trying to get a good look at the boat.
July 2004 Updates:
- Link to the new Kentucky African American Griots website on the Boone County Links Page.
- I am currently working on adding pictures and transcriptions of headstones/cemeteries for Boone County. If you have pictures you would like included, please email them to me. I will also take any transcriptions you would like to send me. There are about 175 cemeteries in Boone County so this will be a major project. If you would like to volunteer - just let me know which cemetery you would like to photograph/transcribe.
June 2004 Updates:
- There have been 2 new Researchers added to the Surnames page.
- We've had 126 names added to the Family Group Sheets. Please submit your family sheets now!
