Thanks to the Shelby County Historical Society, I was finally able to
get a name to all these Flat Rock Cemeteries. The Flat Rock
Cemetery
opposite the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women at the Shelby
County line is the one that solely claims this name. There is
another transcription already done by Pat
Cannady (and posted here on site) that includes those buried at
the Flat Rock Christian Church Cemetery a couple of miles up the
road. Please email your coordinator if you have any other names you would like to add to
this listing or if you have any questions. This compilation was
derived from works by Pat Cannady, the book "Cemeteries of Shelby
County, Kentucky", and from an old transcription found in the
Oldham County Library entitled "Graveyards of Jefferson
County". The author, Bessie Taul Conkwright, 21
Nov 1933, wrote "not at the present church, but opposite the
Western State Hospital for the Insane, Lakeland, on the Jefferson and
Shelby County line." This leaves me to believe the present
prison property once belonged to the hospital. Updated 053105.

Turn onto Long Run
Road off US60. Drive north for 4.2 miles to intersection of
KY362. You will pass the Flat Rock Christian Church Cemetery
at this intersection. Take a left on 362 and travel
for 2.6 more miles. The cemetery is on the left side of the
road across from the entrance to the women's prison.
If you were to remain driving on this road, it will take you into
the southern part of Pewee Valley in Oldham County. |
