Brownsville(SPL.)--J.V. Carder was one of Edmonson County's teachers during the latter partof the last century, and the early part of this century.  He was also anattorney, and once served as postmaster of Brownsville.


The schoolpictured above was made at the Oak Grove one-room rural school, two miles fromthe county seat town.  It was one of the first rural schools to beconsolidated with Brownsville in 1930.  Many of the children shown in thepicture are now retired business men and women.
