Funeral services for ALBERT ROSS of Revelo, KY., who died Monday, February
18th, were held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Mr. Ross had been ill for moare than two
years before his death.
He is survived by four brothers, Ned Ross, Revelo, Lawrence Ross, Revelo, Carl
Ross, Toledo, Ohio, Dillard Ross, Stearns; and three sisters, Mrs. Nellie
Troxell, Bell Farm, Mrs. Nancy H. Phipps, Indiana and Mrs. Elizabeth Tapley,
Gordon, W. VA.

CYNTHIA JEAN (JANE) WILSON ROSS
Funeral services were held in Hickman
Funeral Home Chapel Sunday, March 18, for Mrs. CYNTHIA JEAN
(JANE) WILSON ROSS, 72, who died Thursday, March 15, at Abbott
Rest Home in Burnside. Rev. Levi Cox was the officiating
minister.
The deceased, a daughter of the late W.
M. Wilson and Lou Whitehead Wilson, was born February 9, 1890 in
Wayne County but lived most of her life in McCreary County. Mrs
Ross is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ethel Whitehead, Mrs.
Gracie Barnett, Mrs.Creasie Griffis; five sons, Jasper, Leamon,
Charlie, Lloyd and Ernest Ross, all living in McCreary County.
She is also survived by six brothers and one sister, Ale Wilson,
Ben Wilson, Cal Wilson, Elihu Wilson, Walter wilson, Shelby
Wilson and Mrs. Margaret Barnett.

Dillard Ross, 59, Revelo, died August 12 in Scott County
Hospital, Oneida, Tenn. His wife, Mrs. Vonda Griffith Ross,
survives./ He was the son of Joshua Ross and Elizabeth
Troxell Ross, both deceased, and was born March 12, 1914, in
McCreary County and was employed as a coal miner./
Surviving besides his wife are four daughters, Mrs. Patricia Wood
and Mrs. Glenna Gregory, both of Xenia, Ohio, Mrs. Norma Jones of
Smithtown and Mrs. Eula Spradlin of Rigdon, Ind.; two sons, Jimmy
Ross and Kenny Ross, both of Revelo; three brothers, Lawrence
Ross and Carl Ross, both of Revelo, and Ned Ross of Strunk; and
one sister, Mrs. Nellie Troxell of Revelo./ Funeral
services were held August 14 in Ross Grove Baptist Church with
Rev. Charlie Taylor and Rev. Harold Jones officiating. Burial was
in the Troxell Cemetery with Hickman Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements./ Pallbearers were his nephews: Charles,
Ruben, Logan, Birdell, Bobby and Johnny Ross.
Burial was in the Nancy Grave Cemetery.

Dora I. Ross
Dora I. Ross, 46, of Norwood, Ohio, formerly of McCreary County,
passed away Tuesday, December 29, 1970, at Good Samaritan
Hospital after an illness of six weeks. The daughter of Elihu and Marie Hickman Wilson
of Hill Top, Ky., she was born July 21, 1924, in McCreary County.
She was married November 15, 1940, to Fred Ross, who survives,
and was a member of the Baptist Church. Besides her
husband, she is survived by
four children, Randall Ross, Correl Ross, Mrs.. Claudine Cook,
and Mrs. Gloria Mae Cantor; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elihu
Wilson; four sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Dixon, Mrs. Lucetta Martins,
Mrs. Mary Runion, Mrs. Sue
Gibson; and two brothers, Doyle and Deroy Wilson. Funeral
services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 2, at the Hill
Top Baptist Church with Rev. John L. Troxell officiating.
Burial was in Green Hill Cemetery with Hickman Funeral Home in
charge.

Edward Ray Ross
STEARNS MAN DIES AFTER BEING HIT BY SOUTHERN TRAIN:
Edward Ray Ross, 26, of Stearns, was killed instantly Sunday when
he was struck by a southbound train on the Southern Railway
tracks at Stearns./ Funeral services were scheduled today at 2
p.m. at Hickman Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Angel
Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Estel Stephens and Arnold Canada were
selected to conduct the services./ Coroner Raymond
Stephens, who conducted an inquest, said he found Ross was hit by
the train and apparently was killed accidentally. State police
had conducted an investigation at about 3:40 a.m., Stephens said,
and quoted Engineer George Whitehead as stating he saw what
appeared to be a paper box on the tracks and as his train
approached Ross, he observed the man sitting on the tracks with
his head between his legs, and Whitehead said he could not stop
the train in time to avoid hitting the victim. Stephens said he
could not determine that Ross was sick./ He said 5 units of
the train passed over Ross from the point he was believed to have
impacted with the train and both legs were severed./ He was
a grandson of Oscar Ross, whose picture appeared recently in the
McCreary County Record with a rattlesnake he had shot will
hunting./The train accident victim is survived by his parents,
Oscar Ross Junior and Edith Davis Ross; five brothers and four
sisters as follows; Delbert of Indianapolis, Bill of
Tiffin, Ohio, Newman of Sidney, Ohio, and Donald and Gene Ross of
Stearns; Mrs. Helen Roberts of Michigan City, Ind., Mrs. Shirley
Hatfield of Norma, Tenn., and Mrs. Carolyn Godsey and Mrs. Wilma Thompson of
Stearns./ Born at Marshes Siding April 28, 1951, he had been a lifelong
resident of McCreary County and worked as a general laborer.

HENRY H. ROSS
HENRY H. ROSS, 77, Stearns, a retired
carpenter, died Sunday, February 11, at Somerset City Hospital.
Mr. Ross was born October 8, 1884 at
Pine Knot and lived all of his life in McCreary County. He was
the son of Thomas Ross and Nancy Trammell Ross, both deceased. He
was a member of the Baptist Church. The deceased is survived by
his wife, Mrs. Lula May Benson Ross; three sons. donald Ross.
Whitley City; Arnold Ross, Stearns; Virgil Ross, Revelo, and one
daughter, Gertrude Ross, Stearns. One son, Walter, preceded his
father in death. Also surviving are the following brothers and
sisters, N. R. Ross and James Ross, Revelo; Mrs. Liza Starr, Camp
Bordens, Ontario; Mrs. Nancy Smith, Robbins, Tenn.; Mrs. Rebecca
Bradley, Pine Knot, and Thomas F. Ross, Fort Pierce, Fla. Nine
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held Tuesday
at 2 o'clock in the afternoon from the First Hickory Grove
Church. Revelo, with Rev. Kawood Whalen officiating.

JALIE LEE ROSS
Mrs. JALIE LEE ROSS, 73, died November
15 at her home at Revelo following a prolonged illness.
Mrs. Ross, the wife of N. R. Ross was
born September 12, 1888, the daughter of Jeff Davis Benson and
Prillia Phillips Benson. She was married to N. R. Ross, May 19,
1906 at Huntsville, Tenn., and to this union six children were
born. She was a member of the Otter Creek Baptist Church.
Mrs. Ross is survived by her husband, N.
R. Ross, Revelo, five daughters, Mrs. Maggie Justice, Oliver
Springs, Tenn.; Mrs. Carrie King, West Frankfort, Illinois; Mrs.
Eva Clark, Winchester, Ind.; Mrs Pearl King, Zeigler, Ill., Mrs.
Goldie Crabtree, Indianapolis, Ind., one son, Lonzo Ross,
Hamilton, Ohio; one brother, Harve Benson, Hill Top and two
sisters, Mrs. Lula Ross and Mrs. Dora Benson, both living at
Revelo. Funeral services were held
Saturday at 10 a.m. from the First Hickory Grove Church with Rev.
Kawood Whalen Officiating. Burial was in the Ross Grove Cemetery.
Pall bearers were Dorman, Norman, and
Ronald D. Ross, Harold, Curtis and Nim Crabtree.

Jasper Ross, 61, Smithtown, died January 13 at University
Hospital in Knoxville, Tenn. He had been ill for several
weeks./ He was born May 28, 1911, in Wayne County, and was
a son of the late Hannibal Ross and Syntha Wilson Ross. He was a
retired coal miner./ Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Pinkie
Ross of Smithtown; three daughters, Mrs. Flora Crowe and Mrs.
Shirley Faye Sluss, both of Indianapolis, and Mrs. Lora Mae
Wilson of Smithtown; six sons, Fred Ross and Jasper Ross, Jr.,
both of Smithtown, Esau Ross, Thomas Ross, Lonzo Ross and Jim
Ross, all of Stearns; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Whitehead of Hill
Top and Mrs. Creasie Ball of Cincinnati; four brothers, Leamon Ross of Stearns,
Charlie Ross of Muncie, Ind., Lloyd Ross of Lexington and Ernest Ross of
Smithtown; 22 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and four step-grandchildren./
Funeral services were held January 16 at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev.
Herbert (Bud) Perry officiating./ Burial was in Angel Cemetery in Stearns
with Hickman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mathew Ross, 94, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Roy
Lewis, in Stearns, Tuesday, November 12, 1974, terminating a
lingering illness. His wife, Rachel Tapley Ross, preceded him in
death./ The deceased, a son of the late Mathew Ross and
Elizabeth Duncan Ross, was born at Pine Knot November 9, 1880,
and lived his entire lifetime in McCreary County. He was married
July 9, 1901, to the former Rachel Tapley and to this union eight
children were born, six of whom survive. He was a retired coal
miner and a member of Stearns First Baptist Church./
Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Ollie Huff, Alpine, Ky.;
Mrs. Eskie Ball, Mrs. Delia Lewis and Mrs. Bessie Ball, all of
Stearns; Mrs. Carol Couch, Edinburgh, Ind.; a son Luke E. Ross,
Alpine; seventeen grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren; a
son, Adrian Ross, a daughter Arleen R. Terry and four
grandchildren preceded him in death./ Funeral services were
held in the funeral home chapel Friday, November 15, at 10:30
a.m. with the Rev. Loyd King officiating./ Active
pallbearers were his grandsons, C.B. Hoff, Bob Lewis, Jeffery
Ross, Mark Ross, Mike Hoff and Vester Lewis./ Hickman
Funeral Home in Charge of arrangements.

MELTON FRANK ROSS
MELTON FRANK ROSS, SR., 86,
retired merchant and well known citizen of Pine Knot, died
Saturday, October 8, in the Scott County Hospital, terminating a
long illness.
The deceased was born October 25,
1879, in Whitley County, the son of Alvin Ross and Carolyn Dople
Ross. He was married July 28, 1906 to Mollie Davenport and of the
union five children were born, four of whom survive.
Mr. Ross moved to Pine Knot from
Jellico, Tenn in 1926 and engaged in the merchandise business. He
was actively interested in the affairs of his community, was
prominent in the political affairs of the County, and was widely
known and respected by his business associates throughout the
county. He was a member of the Pine Knot Missionary Baptist
Church.
Surviving Mr. Ross are his wife, a
daughter, Mrs. Nadine Creekmore, Indianapolis, Ind., four sons,
Frank Ross, Jr., Sarasota, Fla., Arleis Ross, Dade City, Fla.,
and Smith G. Ross, Pine Knot, and one sister, Mrs. Dessie Hughes,
Lafollette, Tenn.
Funeral services were conducted by
the Rev. Herman King, Monday, October 10, at 2 p.m. from the Pine
Knot Missionary Baptist Church. Burial was in the Pine Knot
Cemetery. Active pall bearers were Scott Creekmore; Chester Hill;
Eldred Musgrove; Lucian Bryant; and Earl Anderson.
Honorary pall bearers were Leon
Hayes; Dorman Strunk; Ethelbert Creekmore; Fred Morgan; Luther
Hughes; Charles Creekmore; Clellan King; Dewey Spradlin; Francis
A. Creekmore and Leonard Lovett.

Ned Ross, 80, Strunk, died Friday, November 29, in Scott County
Hospital, Oneida, Tenn. He had been ill for approximately eight
weeks. His wife, Mrs. Maude King Ross, survives./ The son
of Joshua Ross and Elizabeth Troxell Ross, he was born in Whitley
County October 24, 1894. He lived all of his life in the Paunch
Creek community of McCreary County where he worked at farming, in
timber and lumbering and as a coal miner. He was a quiet and
gentle person and a soft-spoken gentleman. He was a member of the
Otter Creek Baptist Church./ Survivors besides his wife,
include six sons, Wilburn Ross, Tacoma, Washington, Conrad Ross,
Bridgeport, W. Va., Charles Ross, Strunk, Rubin Ross,
Indianapolis, Ind., Logan Ross, Cleves, Ohio, Burdell Ross,
Indianapolis, Ind.; a daughter, Mrs. Lillian Litton,
Indianapolis; two brothers, Lawrence and Carl Ross, Revelo; two
sisters, Mrs. Nellie Troxell, Revelo and Mrs. Nancy Jane
Phillips, Muncie, Ind.; 80 grandchildren and five great
grandchildren./ One son, Osborne Ross, one grandchild, five
brothers, Albert, Fred, Clyde, Dillard and Leamon Ross and a
sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Tapley, preceded him in death./
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. in Otter
Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Carmel Stanley and Rev. Nathan
Byrd officiating. Burial was in the Troxell Cemetery./
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Bobby, Billy, Glenn, Johnnie and
Jimmy Ross and Donnie Litton./ McCreary County Funeral Home
was in charge of arrangements.

William Loyd Ross, 55, husband of Ruth King Ross, of Stearns died
October 24 in the Scott County Hospital after a sudden
illness./ A native of McCreary County he was born January
4, 1921 to the late Hannibal and Cynthia Wilson Ross./
Survivors include three children, Bobby L., and Milford Ross,
Stearns and William G. Ross, Cincinnati; three brothers, Leamon
and Charlie Ross, Stearns, Ernest Ross, Smithtown; two sisters,
Ethel Whitehead, Hill Top and Creacy Ball, Whitley City; nine
grandchildren, one brother, one sister and three
great-grandchildren are deceased./ Funeral services were
held October 26 at McCreary County Funeral Home Chapel by Rev.
Herbert "Bud" Perry and Lester Troxell. Burial was in
the Nancy Grave Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were handled by
the McCreary County Funeral Home.

Mrs. Dissie Roysden, 56, formerly of Stearns, died suddenly April
30 at her home in Attica, Ind. Mrs. Roysden was a machine
operator for the Radio Material Corporation, and a member of the
Baptist church./ Surviving are her former husband, James H.
Roysden, and her children, Dorothy Shephard, Fort Lauderdale,
Fla., Ronnie Roysden, Oliver Springs, Tenn., Roger Roysden, U.S.
Army in Germany, Doris Roysden and James H. Roysden, both of
Attica, Ind./ Other survivors include 11 grandchildren,
three brothers, Curtis Watters of Muncie, Ind., Glenford Watters
and Dillard Watters, both of Attica, Ind., and two sisters Truie
Vaughn of Revelo and Hattie Reel of Muncie, Ind./ The
funeral took place at the Hickman Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday,
May 4, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Hobart Vaughn and the Rev. Robert
Jones officiating./ The burial was at the Barr
Cemetery./ Hickman Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.

Mary Etta Ryan
Mrs. Mary Etta Ryan, 76, a resident of the Strunk community, died
Wednesday, January 20, in the Scott County Nursing Home, Oneida,
Tenn. She had been ill for several months. Her husband, Joe Ryan,
survives. The deceased was born April 30, 1894, at Strunk, the
daughter of the late Bob Carter and Phoebe Wilson Carter. She was
a housewife and mother and a member of the Silerville Baptist
Church. Surviving besides her husband, are six daughters, Mrs.
Mae Ball, Mrs. Mabel McDonald and Mrs. Lois Troxell, Revelo; Mrs.
Dessie Strunk, Winfield, Tenn.; Mrs. Ruth Smith, Danville, Ky,;
Mrs. Edwina Black, Tucson, Ariz.; two sons, George Cooper,
Tucson, Ariz., and Joe Ryan, Jr., Sidney, Ohio; a brother, Ben
Carter, Evarts, Ky.; and a sister, Mrs. Audie Duncan, Chicago,
Ill. Funeral services were held Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the
Silerville Baptist Church with Rev. Nathan Byrd and Rev. Albert
Chitwood officiating. Burial was in the Jones Cemetery with
Hickman Funeral Home in charge.
