JOSEPH W. WATERS
, 82, died October 21 at Scott County Hospital in Oneida Following an illness of about two weeks. Mr. Waters was born in Wayne County and moved to McCreary County more than forty years ago, and engaged in farming and various other activities until his retirement about six years ago. Since retirement he had made his home in Whitley City with a brother, Tapley Waters. He was the son of the late Henry Waters and Sara Jane Spradlin Waters.
     He was married to Lou Verna Foster of Whitley County in 1897 and to this union four sons were born, all of whom survive. Mr. Waters was a devoted husband and father and a dood citizen and neighbor. He was a member of the Pleasant Rock Baptist Church.
     Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Hickory Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Edd Simpson officiating. Burial was in the Pine Knot Cemetery.
     MR. Waters is survived by four sons, Milton L. Waters, Whitley City, Fred and Walter L. of Revelo and Noble of Cincinnati, one half-brother, Tapley Waters, Whitley City, five grandsons, two grand-daughters and one great-grandson.
     Active pallbearers were Chester Taylor, william Shelly, Gilbert Troxell, Earl Previtt, Hurstle Ball and Bernard Kidd.
     Honorary bearers were Bud Crabtree, Oscar Duncan, John L. Phillips, Charie Cooper, Elmer Strunk, Albert Martin, Ryce Slave and Elbert Ramsey.
