Janet Tate Smith, 66, of College Hill Road, died Monday afternoon, October 11,
2004, at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
Janet was born on December 13, 1937, in Madison County, the daughter of the late
Gordon and Audrey Mallott Tate. She was a homemaker, a private duty caregiver
and a member of the Great Sheperd Ministries. Janet was a loving mother and
devoted Christian.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Leon Smith; one grandson,
Joshua Allen Hurt; and one brother, Richard Tate.
Survivors include: five sons; Larry Hurt of Nicholasville, Wayne Hurt of
Richmond, Danny (Gail) Hurt of Waco, Leon "Jack" Smith Jr. of Dreyfus and Mike
Smith of Waco; three daughters, Diana Winkler (Dudley) of Waco, Tommie Draper
(John) of Indiana, Donna Tapley (David) of Richmond; five brothers, Gordon
Caswell Tate (Lilly) of Irvine, Harold Dean Tate (Bonnie) of Ashland, Donnie
Tate (Delores) of Indiana, Raymond Tate (Brenda) of Waco and Maxey Tate of
Dreyfus; five sisters, Dorothy Wall (Harold) of Union City, Wilma Thomas
(Russell) of Louisville, Joyce Halcomb (Tommy) of Waco, Maxine Patton of
Richmond and Gladys Spillman (Wayne) of Richmond; a sister-in-law, Mary Weitkamp
(Ken) of Richmond; sixteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, several
nieces and nephews and a host of dear friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Combs, Parsons and
Collins Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in
the Flatwoods Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
The sons, grandsons and brothers will serve as pallbearers.
