Gary
Dale Perkins, 56, Minister, Chaplain, brother, husband, father and grandfather,
died Friday, April 2, 2004. He was born February 15, 1948 in Richmond, Kentucky,
the son of Carl N. and Gladys L. Ramsey Perkins. He graduated Lafayette High
School in 1966. Gary married his wife, Linda LaRue Dillon, on August 25, 1968 at
Broadway Christian Church. He graduated in 1970 from Milligan College in
Tennessee and earned his Doctorate of Divinity in 1974 from the Lexington
Theological Seminary. Gary was baptized in 1958 and ordained in 1970 by Broadway
Christian Church. He was commissioned in the United States Army as a Chaplain in
1974 and served as U.S. Army First Signal Brigade Chaplain among other
assignments. After 22 years of service, he retired in 1996 with the rank of
Lieutenant Colonel. After his retirement, he served as Associate Director at
Open Arms Christian Ministries at Switz City, Indiana from 1996-2000. He was a
facilitator for the Dynamic Marriage program and Emmaus Community. Gary served
as Minister of Administration and Adult Education at Broadway Christian Church
until his death. In addition to his parents and wife, he is survived by three
daughters and sons-in-law, Miriam and Stephen Perkins Fernie of Washington,
D.C., Hannah Perkins Chia and David Chia of Rockville, Maryland and Alicia Kay
and Keith Katterheinrich of London, Kentucky; two sons and daughters-in-law,
Nathan C. and Melinda Perkins of Odon, Indiana and Lt. David N. and Brittany
Perkins of Fort Huachuca, Arizona; one grandson, Joel Dillon Katterheinrich,
born on September 18, 2003; his sister and brother-in-law, Suzanne Perkins Adams
and Jerry Adams of Lexington, Kentucky; one sister-in-law, Frances Ann Dillon of
Versailles, Kentucky; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Hershel E. and LaRue
Dillon and a host of Aunts and Uncles. Friends may call on Saturday from 5 to 7
p.m. at Broadway Christian Church and from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the church,
where services will be held Sunday at 6:00 p.m. with Jim Bird, Minister, and Dr.
David Burris officiating. A private burial will be at Camp Nelson National
Cemetery. Memorial contributions are preferred and may be directed to The
Elizabeth Kerr Scholarship Fund, C/O Broadway Christian Church. The family
rejoices in a life lived in faithful devotion to God. W.R. Milward
