Nelson Perkins, 82, retired engineer with IBM, and husband of Gladys Ramsey
Perkins, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2004. Born in Valley View, KY, he was a
son of the late Noble and Nelly White Perkins. Growing up on the 300-acre family
farm in Valley View, he was a standout basketball player at Madison Central high
school, receiving the letter award in the 1940-41 season. After 3 years of
military service during WWII and 12 years of farming, he relocated his family to
Lexington where he spent 25 years with IBM. Carl loved to bowl, golf, and serve
at Broadway Christian Church, where he acted as deacon and Sunday School
Superintendent/Treasurer. In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by
a daughter, Suzanne Perkins (Jerry) Adams, Lexington; four sisters, Helen
Nelson, Louisville, Kathleen (Harold) Miller, Brownsburg, IN, Ada Bell (Wallace)
Worrell and Alene (Ralph) Long, both of Richmond, KY; five grandchildren, Miriam
Perkins Fernie, Hannah Chia, Alicia Katterheinrich, Nathan Perkins, Lt. David
Perkins; one great grandchild, Joel Katterheinrich; and daughter in law, Linda
D. Perkins, Georgetown. His son, Gary Dale Perkins and his brother, Eugene
Perkins, preceded him in death. Services will be 11 AM Friday at W.R. Milward
Mortuary-Broadway, conducted by Stuart Couve. Burial will follow at the
Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Thursday. Memorials may be made to
