George Estill
Miller passed away Sunday, February 29, 2004 at his home, he was born
September 9, 1926 in Laurel County, KY to James Milton and Elizabeth
Vandyventer Miller. George and his wife Venice Caldwell Miller have
celebrated 51 years of marriage. George and Venice have 3 daughters
Linda Ruth married to Michael Ross, Donna Raye married to Tom Saylor,
Georgina Lee married to Rick Wicker. George is papaw to 12 beloved
grandchildren Erin Elizabeth Ross married to James Knight, Christopher
George Walsh, Logan Daniel Hester, Collin Bryant Hester, Devin Lee
Hester, Richard Scott Wicker Jr., Jessica Nicole Wicker, Joyce Danielle
Wicker, Erica Anne Wicker, Samantha Saylor and Patrick Saylor.
George was
preceded in death in 2002 by his beloved grandson Matthew Braden Ross,
also preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers Curtis,
Elmer, Omer and Roy, one sister Ruth Browning.
George is
survived by one brother James Ray Miller. He also has many nieces,
nephews, fishing, hunting and baseball buddies and former students who
will miss him.
George
retired after 18 years with the U.S. Forest Service when a massive heart
attack disabled him. He then worked with Berea College student
activities for 12 years. He was a member of Berea Baptist Church.
He proudly
served his country in Korea as a U.S. Army Sergeant during that war and
was a former member of the American Legion Post 50 in Berea.
Funeral
services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at Lakes Funeral
Home with Rev. Kevin Slemp officiating. Burial with full military honors
will follow at Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from
5-9 p.m. at Lakes Funeral Home.
Pallbearers
will be Erin Ross Knight, Jim Knight, Christopher Walsh, Samantha
Saylor, Patrick Saylor, Logan Hester, Collin Hester, Devin Hester, Ricky
Wicker, Jessica Wicker, Joyce Wicker, Erica Wicker and Robin Linville.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Blanton, Bert Summers, Cecil Greene,
Claude Gentry, Boyd “Shorty” VanWinkle, Doug ”Tubby” Parker and Kenny
Davidson.
In Lieu of
flowers donations may be made to the Matt Ross fund, “So That All May
Play”, for Berea Youth League Baseball, c/o Tod Jennings, P.O. Box 340,
Berea, KY 40403.
