Mable Elizabeth Howard
RICHMOND - , Mable Elizabeth Howard, 92, died Sat., Sept. 18, 2004, of natural
causes. Born in Baldwin, Kentucky, on March 12, 1912, she was the only child of
Terry Moses and Nora Adams Perkins. Mable was a lifetime member of the Bethel
Christian Church and an active member of the Baldwin Community for many years.
Mable married Claude C. Howard in 1929, and in addition to being a housewife and
mother, she engaged in various enterprises with Claude, including farming, an
upholstery business in Middletown, Ohio and owners, for many years, of the
Valley View Ferry at Valley View, Kentucky. For the past several years, Mable
lived on Westwood Drive in Richmond with her daughter, Nancy Young, who acted as
her caretaker until Mable's deteriorating health dictated that she move to
Kenwood Nursing Home. For the past several months she was in private care. The
surviving members thank Nancy Young for her devoted attention and care to both
Claude and Mable in their final years of life. In addition to her daughter,
Nancy, survivors include a son, Paul C. Howard of Sacramento, California and his
wife Nancy, as well as three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Mable
had many friends and was known for her sense of humor and an outgoing
personality that never met a stranger. She will be missed by family and all who
knew her. Services are 2 pm Wednesday at Oldham, Roberts & Powell Funeral Home,
with Brother Jerome Curry of Antioch Christian Church and Brother Matt Vaught
officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be
from 7 - 9 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Marion Lane, Greg
Shackleford, Armon Sanders, Brad Mills, John Howard, Ronnie Burrus, Mark and
Clay Burke (great -grandsons). Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Nealey, William
Park Griggs, Wayne Perkins, Garnett Isbell, Curtis Bogie and Lonnie Ashcraft.
