Flora Allen age 86 of N. Cumberland St. Berea Co-owner of Allen’s Flowers died Wednesday March 3, 2004 at the UK Hospital in Lexington. She was born in Whitley County to the Late Leonard and Ruth Smith Cox. Flora came to Berea College and graduated in 1940, and received her masters from Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College. She taught school in Harlan County and at Berea Community School. Flora was active in many clubs and organizations in Berea including being a charter Member of the Berea Lioness Club, Berea Retired Teachers Association, Progress Club, Delta Kappa Gamma and she was also a member of the Berea Baptist Church. Flora was preceded in death by her husband John Bill Allen.

Flora is survived by her daughters: Nora Ruth (Marvin) Jenkins of Berea, Margaret (Mike) Cornelison of Greenville, NC. Grandchildren: Christopher (Barbara) Jenkins, Reed Cornelison, Jonathan (Amanda) Jenkins, Mason Cornelison, and Meredith (Brian) Reed. 2 great grandchildren David and Owen Jenkins. A nephew Kenneth (Thelma) Fee.

Funeral services will be Saturday March 6, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Berea Baptist Church, with Rev. David Grandgeorge officiating. Burial will be in the Berea Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, and Honorary Pallbearers are the members of the Berea Lioness Club. Visitation will be Friday March 5, 2004 from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Lakes Funeral Home.
