My 2nd g-grandfather (Joseph Cunningham) came to Lyon (then Caldwell Co)
ca. 1848 and settled in the old TN Rolling Mill section (Cumberland
River, close to Trigg Co. line). His son, Charles (my great-grandfather)
stayed on after the Rolling Mill relocated to Louisville, KY in the late
1800's. He raised a large family there and was superintendent of the
Rolling Mill School at the turn of this century. Last year, my husband
and I took Charles' youngest daughter, Leona (now 102-years-old), for a
visit to his gravesite (first time in over 25 years). She's one of the
great story-tellers of my family, sharing tales of growing up "at the
Rolling Mill".

Here's a copy of Charles' obit from the Eddyville newspaper (sorry, date
was deleted from the copy). He died Nov 11, 1922.

"Charlie Cunningham, 76- Years of Age, Died Saturday Afternoon"

"C.W. (Charlie) Cunningham, a pioneer resident of the Rolling Mill
section of this county, died at his home at that place Saturday
afternoon about 2:15 o'clock. Death was due to paralysis.
Mr. Cunningham was 76 years of age and had lived at the Rolling Mills

was about 18 months old.
In his early days he was employed at the Rolling Mills in the
manufacture of iron ore and, when this was abandoned, was names as
overseer or superintendent of the Ewald Land Company's property which
position he held until a few years ago when the Ewald's sold their
holding to the Helfrich Lumber Company at Evansville, Ind.
Mr. Cunningham was widely known to many people of this county and had
many friends. He was a sturdy citizen, a big-hearted man and of typical
Irish descent. Many years ago he professed faith in Christ and united
with the Baptist church and lived faithful until the end.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon by
Rev. L.B. Hooks, and interment followed in the Rolling Mill cemetery,
where a large crowd had gathered to pay their last respects to their
desceased friend and comrade.

two daughters. The sons are: Dave Cunningham of Memphis, Tenn., and
Elliott Cunningham, of Milddletown, Ohio. The daughters are: Mrs. John
D. Gray of Lyon County, and Mrs. Steve Howard of Paducah. All were
