Eversole Late- Company L, 14th Regiment Kentucky Cavalry, No. 527.988 On this the 8th day of January, 1887- Personally appeared the claimant JOSEPH W. EVERSOLE, well known to be reputable and entitled to full credence, who being duly sworn, deposes and says: I am 54 years old, I reside in Jackson County, Kentucky. My Post Office address is Benge, Clay County, Kentucky. My Captain states in an affidavit now on file that while at Camp Nelson I took something like Jaundice and Pneumonia, fever and was mighty sick. I cannot prove that I had affections of joints- arms and right shoulder and collarbone in service. My term of service had so nearly expired when I was taken with Jaundice and Pneumonia-which resulted in the above described diseases. I was sick with Pneumonia and Jaundice when I was discharged. I was sore on each side of my breast when discharged and the soreness remained until I got home and about the 3d or 4th day after I got home the pains struck me in my right and probably both arms- my right arm was so swollen and pained me so much I paid but little attention to the left arm for nearly a year after. I proved this by neighbors John and Jesse Bowling. There was no Doctor in my neighborhood that I could get and I cannot furnish medical testimony from Doctors while I resided in Perry County, Kentucky. Have filed medical testimony since my removal here. I can furnish testimony of comrades who waited on me while sick with Pneumonia and Jaundice. I was not treated while in the service for the reason that Major. Eversole advised if I was sent to Hospital I would take Small Pox which was prevalent in hospitals. I am for that reason unable to furnish the testimony of my Regimental Surgeon. I was unable to go there myself. When I was sent home on sick furlough I suppose in the summer of 1863 I have disease of the eyes. I am unable to furnish testimony of Doctors showing my physical condition while home on furlough for the reason that there was, no doctors near where I resided at that time. Joseph W. Eversole Sworn and subscribed before me the day and date above written.
