Pictured here is part of Perkinstown which was founded during the late
1800's by Henry Clay Perkins, at the junction of Needmore Road and Rt. 201,
about 1 1/2 miles from Webbville. It was a lumber town which grew to abt. 25
houses, connected by boardwalks. Henry and his wife Eliza owned a house lot
and a store/saloon. They sold everything from dresses to farm equipment and
there was hard cider in barrels behind the counter. For entertainment,
occasional platform dances were held.
The town may have been called Henry's Station in the beginning. It also had
the name Centerville for a while.
Perkinstown disappeared soon after the Depression and was razed in later
years. Today nothing but a field remains of the former town. Picture taken
abt. 1930-1940.
