1891 Matilda Cayce ( colored) age 100 was killed by a train at
Hopkinsville on Monday.
1891 Jack Edgar ( colored) "Old Uncle Jack" died Wed at his home on
Maysville St.
June 6, 1891 Lev. James ( colored) was hanged at Hickman Wed for
shooting a stranger at the depot.
October 6, 1891 Taylor Churchill ( colored) and some companions were
pulling down a wall Tues., when it suddenly gave way, killing Churchill.
The others escaped injury.
Dec 22, 1891 Shelton Jones ( old colored man) was found lying dead
on the railroad embankment. He had wandered away from the home of his son
Dan Jones at the east end of the city. He froze to death during the night.
July 19, 1892 Wades Mills - Last Wed during thunderstorms, Joe Clark
( colored) was killed by lightning, William Gay who was near him was
shocked.
November 8, 1892 Near Richmond, Bill Bennett ( colored ) shot and
killed Pleas Jenkins ( colored).
November 8, 1892 Oscar Jones ( colored) was hanged at Owingsville
Friday for the murder of Marshall Taylor Vice of Sharpsburg last Dec.
March 14, 1893 Two weeks ago while scuffling with a negro named Babe
Williams. John Coughlin of Paris received a fatal blow at the base of the
spinal cord and he died Wed night. Williams is under arrest.
March 28, 1893 The four year old child of Ben Turl ( colored) of
Smithwell, died Thursday. The mother left the children ages 4 and 5 on the
porch with instructions not to go into the house but disobeying her, the
little one climbed on the stove and caught its clothing on fire.
May 16, 1893 John Ewing, (colored) suicided last Friday at his home
in Preston from an overdose of morphine. His wife had just left him.
June 13, 1893 Bob Brown ( colored ) was hanged at Mayfield, KY
Friday for the murder of Albery Colley, white farmer on Dec 10, 1892.
Before his death he declared that Dave Sherrill a negro accomplice, serving
a life sentence in the penitentiary had nothing to do with the murder.
November 28, 1893 George Armstron ( colored ) was hanged at
Taylorsville Friday for the murder of his mistress Kate Downs ( colored)
January 9, 1894 -Article- Sunday morning at 10 o'clock at Deep
Bottom VA, the most notorious negro settlement in the town, Tom Hunt was
stabbed by Will Lasses, alias Will Turner, alias Will Conner , during a crap
game. The players were Will Reed, Oliver Fletcher, George Brown, Harvey
Owens, George Hunt, Will Turner and Tom Hunt, all negroes. The man who did
the killing was from Owingsville, KY. His brother John Turner and Harvey
Owens were also arrested.
January 9, 1894 Phil Evans, the Bardstown colored fiend who outraged
the 12 year old Edna Hale Oct 4, 1893 was executed Friday at Bardstown. He
made a full confession.
July 10, 1894 Robert Tucker, the oldest negro in Indian
territory has just died. He was 113. Was a slave among the Choctaw
for over 50 years. During a portion of the war was the body servant of
General Price of the Confederate army.

8, 1895 William Taylor, colored, was hanged Friday at Richmond for the
murder of David C. Doty, a white farmer.

1895 Sheriff William Sledd and Marshall John W. Taul arrested George
Stoner, a negro, at his mother's home near Levee Saturday night He is
charged with killing a negro woman who some months ago was arrested for
murdering a white woman, Sarah Trimbe in this county, but was dismissed for
lack of evidence. Stoner was taken to Paris yesterday.

12, 1895 Sarah Nelson of color age 50 died at Mrs, Mary Gatewoods last
Friday. Funeral at Evergreen Baptist Church in this city Sunday by Rev.
J.C. Cross

18, 1895 Policeman Charles Evans was fatally shot attempting to arrest
John Johnson, the negro wounded by dying officer Sat. night. Policeman
Evans and Lane went to a place called "Deep Bottom" because the negro was
raising a disturbance. An ex con, Johnson was the son of a negro whom
Henry Wilson had killed some years since. The dead officer had been married
to his 2nd wife only about 10 days.
