Mrs. Lucy Beard, of Horse Cave, Ky., was born in A.D. 1844. She professed a hope in Christ in A.D. 1868 and was baptized by Rev. Spot Underwood. There was no church organized then at Horse Cave and a few members from different places met and held a revival at bro. Ned Massey’s residence and it was there that Sister Beard made peace with God. After the meeting they organized the first Baptist church of Horse Cave with Sister Beard in the organization. Sisters Lucy Beard and Lizzie Nunnily are the only two members living, who were in that organization. She is the widow of deacon J. F. Beard and has been a servant of the church for 50 years, always living a consistent member. She is 74 years of age.”

Rev. E. W. Strange, of Horse Cave, Ky., was born April 20, 1870. He was reared in Warren county, Ky. and professed a hope in Christ when in his teens. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Will Strange, his father being a deacon in the Mt. Olive Baptist church. Bro. Strange graduated from the common school in Warren county, then went to Nashville, Tenn., where he finished High School at Roger Williams University. He began preaching in 1892 and thought by all who heard him a great preacher. He was elected secretary of the Liberty Association in 1900 and made a faithful servant in that office until his death in 1909. Rev. Strange went into wedlock with Miss Lula of Nashville and to this union five children were born. Sister Lizzie Cook, the sister of Rev. Strange paid for the work inserted in this book. She is the wife of the Rev. W. C. Cook. Rev. Strange was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist church and was pastor at Icy Sink and Reeds at his death.”

Rev. J. W. Willis, of Horse Cave, Hart county, Ky., professed a hope in Christ in 1888 and entered the ministry in 1890. He has been pastor of several churches and also helped to build several. He has served as a Missionary to the Liberty Association two terms. Bro. Willis is about 60 years of age.”
