Mr. Cecil H. Wilson, 90, of Barbourville, the widower of Viola Wilson, passed away Wednesday morning, September 17, 2008 in the Christian Health Center in Corbin. He was a son of the late Sam and Alice Helton Wilson born on September 26, 1917 in Magoffin County. Mr. Wilson was the former publisher of The Barbourville Mountain Advocate and at the time of his death served as publisher emeritus. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he had been very active through the years. He was a graduate and former Trustee of Union College, was proud to have served on the original Daniel Boone Festival Committee, a former member of the Kiwanis Club and was a member of Mountain Lodge 187 F&AM. He enjoyed politics and was a well-known Republican. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margeria Goss and Verlie Wilson and a brother, Arvil Wilson. Survivors include a son, Robert K. Wilson and wife, Jan, of Barbourville; three grandchildren, Kent Wilson and wife, Lynn, of Lexington, Kathy Smith and husband, Steve, and Abby Wilson all of Barbourville; four great grandchildren, Jacob, Elizabeth and Anne Claire Wilson all of Lexington and Lydia Smith of Barbourville; a special friend, Margaret Ann Smith of Cannon; among other loved ones and dear friends. His funeral service was conducted at the First United Methodist Church Saturday, September 20 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Ernie Carmicle officiating. Mr. Wilson was laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery. Casket bearers were Jim Gatliff, John David King, Ernie Wilson, Cameron Hudson, Wiley Brown, Bob Dunaway, Mike Corey and Greg Helton.Expressions of sympathy may go to the First United Methodist Church, 312 North Main Street, Barbourville, KY 40906, or to Union College.
