Howard WEST Howard West, 93, of Artemus, Ky. was born on Feb. 12, 1914 on Little Brush Creek in Knox County, Ky. He was a son of the late Billy and Sally Myrick West. Mr. West died Monday, March 5, 2007 in Knox County Hospital. Mr. West was a member of the Artemus Baptist Church. He was a school principal at Kay Jay and Boone Height in Knox County. He was a former math teacher at Barbourville High School and served as state representative from 1968 to 1972. Mr. West was a member of the Barbourville Masonic Lodge #187 for fifty years and was a Shriner. On Jan. 6, 1935, he united in marriage with Mary Campbell and to this union two sons, Glen Ray and Gerald, were born. His wife, Mary, preceded him in death on Aug. 5, 1970. On Dec. 27, 1971 he united in marriage with Nell Stewart. Surviving Mr. West, his dear wife, Nell Stewart West, of Artemus, Ky.; his sons, Glen Ray West and wife Janice of Corbin, Ky.; Gerald West and wife Dolly of Artemus, Ky.; a sister, Bertha Neely of Redford, Michigan; his grandchildren, Mark West of Somerset, Ky., Shan Burns and husband James of Manchester, Ky.; Brent West and wife Karen of Williamsburg, Ky.; Amy Messer and husband Michael of Corbin, Ky. and Darren West and wife Margaret of Barbourville, Ky.; his great grandchildren, Ian, Sean, Carli, Kyle, Jenna, Carrie Joanne and Nicholas. Mr. West also leaves many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers, Lois Burch, Allie Beard, Rose Cooms, Florence Partin, George Jarvis, Cledia Grove, Whit West and Charles West. Funeral services for Howard West were conducted in Hopper Funeral Home Chapel Friday, March 9, 2007 at 2 p.m. with Rev. B.F. Jackson and Rev. James Vandy officiating. Interment followed in Barbourville Cemetery with Keith Ramsey, Danny Hembree, Don Carter, Charles Miracle, Gene Bruner and Albert Hembree serving as pallbearers.
