Howard Flem Messer, age 71 of Barbourville, passed away on Tuesday
September 18, 2007 in the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin.
Howard was the son of the late Jeff Messer Sr. and Ellen Gray Messer. He
was born on December 3, 1935 at Bailey Switch, Kentucky. Howard was a
Former School Teacher in Knox County and Ohio. He owned and operated
Cumberland Security System. He was a Mason, and a volunteer at the Red
Cross. He graduated from Austin P, in Clarksville, Tennessee. Howard was
an Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. Howard united
in marriage with Carolyn Barton. Along with his parents, he was preceded
in death by his brothers, Jeff Messer Jr., William, Lloyd Gene, Tommy,
and Lee Messer. His Sisters, Naomi Pickard and Edith Hollis. Howard is survived by his brother, Johnny Messer of Springfield, Ohio. Four sisters, Lucy Turner, Julia Taylor, and Carrie Boyd, all of Springfield, Ohio. Kathleen Betsy Messer, of Las Vegas, Nevada. One Nephew, who was like a brother, David Messer of Springfield, Ohio. One Niece, who was like a sister, Beverly Sue Snyder of Springfield, Ohio. He also leaves behind many other dear family and friends. Funeral services for Howard Messer will be conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday September 22, 2007 at 1:00pm with Rev. Denvil Taylor and Rev. Bob Stines officiating. Burial will follow in the Tuggle Cemetery at Heidrick with Nephews and Friends serving as pallbearers. The Messer family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00pm until 9:00pm, and on Saturday after 9:00am until the funeral hour at 1:00pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Hopper Funeral Home.
