Don Burton Mills Don Burton Mills, age 78, was born on January 29, 1930 in Barbourville, Kentucky. He was a son of Otto and Mary Walker Mills. On May 22, 1962 he united in marriage to Wanda Sue Mills, and to this union, 3 sons were born. Mr. Mills died Sunday, May 25, 2008 in the Oak Tree Hospital in Corbin Kentucky. Burton served in the Air Force as a B-29 Gunner &flew in 33 combat missions in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Barbourville; a Life Member of the Kentucky Bar Association; President of the Knox County Chamber of Commerce; Knox County Trial Commissioner; a member of the VFW; A Knox County Teacher; Troop Committee Member for the Boy Scout Troop #518; A Hearing Officer for the Kentucky Workers Compensation Board; A Barbourville City Attorney; and Commonwealth Attorney for Knox &Laurel County. Mr. Mills is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Sue Mills, His loving sons: District Judge, John Knox Mills &wife Jennifer; Richard Burton Mills &wife Annita; Billy Graham Mills &wife Debbie; His grandchildren; Emily Ruth Mills, Sarah Catherine Mills, Benjamin Jefferson Mills, Alexander Burton Mills, Hannah Elizabeth Mills, Devon Brock and a Sister-in-law Margaret Mills. Burton was preceded in death by his parents; Otto and Mary Walker Mills; a brother; Glenn Sterling; his Father and Mother-in-Law, Sawyer &Laura Bell Warren Smith. He was also preceded in death by his best friend and business partner; Joe E. (Cotton) Evans. The Family extends special thanks to his caregiver, June Hubbard. Funeral services for Mr. Don Burton Mills will be in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday May 28, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with his nephews Rev. Mike Smith and Rev. Gary Payne officiating. Burial with Military honors will follow in the Barbourville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Grandsons; Benjamin Jefferson Mills, Alexander Burton Mills and Devon Brock; other relatives; Sterling M. Smith, Johnny P. Mills, Dr. William Edward Hampton, Benjamin Lyon Kinningham and friend, Earl Hammons. Honorary Pallbearers will be two Brothers-in-law; Clarence Payne Jr., Merrill Smith, and the Knox County Bar Association. Friends will be received at the Hopper Funeral Home on Tuesday May 27 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday after 9:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m.Hopper Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. |
