Lewis McDONALD Mr. Lewis Carson McDonald, 94, of Barbourville, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2006 in the Knox County Hospital. He was a son of the late James Harve and Cora Francis Fredrick McDonald born on November 2, 1912 in Knox County. Mr. McDonald was a retired store clerk from Knox County Supply where he was employed for 54 years. He was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Barbourville. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp and enjoyed woodworking, baseball and collecting clocks. Mr. McDonald was a devoted husband, father and friend to many. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Vader Dee McDonald; a grandson, Johnny Ray McDonald; a great-grandson, Silas Xavier McDonald; and ten brothers and sisters, Kenneth McDonald, James F. McDonald, Raymond McDonald, Dee McDonald, Henrietta Taylor, Dorothy Bailey, Aliene Chesnut, Marie McDonald, Lawrence McDonald and an infant brother. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Sylvia Buttery McDonald of Barbourville; four children, Ray McDonald and wife, Susan, of Paris, Charolette Rock and husband, Clayton, of Louisville, Nettie Taylor of Barbourville and Brenda Thomas and husband, Dennis, of Herndon, VA; a daughter-in-law, Charlotte McDonald of Louisville; a brother, Glenn McDonald and wife, Nellie, of Oliver Springs, TN; four sisters-in-law, Evelyn Buttery of Barbourville, Laura Mae Burgess of Morristown, TN, Betty Jo Richardson of Elizabethton, TN and Inez Burgess of Cincinnati, OH; 15 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and other loved ones and dear friends who mourn his passing. His funeral service was conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, December 23 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Shane Nickell and Rev. Clayton Rock officiating. Mr. McDonald was laid to rest in the Mayhew Cemetery. Casket bearers were his grandsons. Honorary bearers were friends and neighbors. Expressions of sympathy may go to either the First Baptist Church of Barbourville or the Swan Pond Baptist Church in loving memory of Mr. McDonald. Arrangements were under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home. |
