Ida McVey Mays age 102, better known to her family and friends as �Nother Mommy� of Boone Height, was born on April 27, 1905 at Greenroad, Kentucky. She was a daughter of the late John and Ellen Warren McVey. Mrs. Mays died Tuesday, August 28th 2007 in the Knox County Hospital. Mrs. Mays was a member of the Baptist Faith. She was a homemaker and enjoyed having her family and friends visit her. She loved growing flowers and writing poetry. On June 5, 1922, she united in marriage to Willie T. Mays. Along with her Parents and Husband, she was preceded in death by her Children; Thelma Middleton, and Infants, Johnnie, Willie T. Jr., Lewis, Preston and Gretchen Mays; Her two Grandchildren; Charles Mays Jr. and Jimmy Lee Mays; her three Sisters; Sarah Shelton, Roxie Tuggle and Nancy Duff; four Brothers; John, Clark, Joe and Chris McVey; four Sons-in-laws; John Rice Jr., James Abrams, Claude Thomas, and Hiram Middleton.
Surviving Mrs. Mays; her loving Children; Charles Mays and wife, Meck of Heidrick; Jimmy Mays and wife, Betty; and Harold Mays all of Boone Height; Denver Mays Sr. of London, Kentucky; Dorothy Thomas of Rose City, Michigan; Betty Rice of Greenroad; and Jewell Abrams of Corbin; Forty-Six Grandchildren; Special Grandson, Harold Mays Jr. and Over 100 Great and Great Great Grandchildren; Funeral Services for Mrs. Mays will be conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel, Saturday, September 1st 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ernie Wyatt, Rev. Jessie Mills and Rev. Denvil Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Barbourville Cemetery with Grandsons and Greg Foley Serving as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Staff at the Barbourville Nursing Home and Staff at the Knox County Hospital. The Mays Family will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home, Friday from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday until the funeral hour at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements will be under the direction of Hopper Funeral Home. |
