IRENE SMITH LEE Irene Smith Lee, age 86, of Girdler, was born on March 5, 1922 at Fount, Kentucky. Shewas the daughter of Flora and Gilbert Smith. Mrs. Lee passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at the Christian Health Center in Corbin. She was a member since 1945 and church pianist for many years at the Locust Grove Baptist Church at Girdler. Mrs. Lee was a retired postmaster. On March 4, 1941, she united in marriage to Roland Lee. She was preceded in death by her husband, of fifty years, Roland Lee; a daughter, Sylvia Sue Lee; two sisters; Lillie Thomas and Carrie Smith and one brother, Chris Smith. Mrs. Lee is survived by her children; Vivian and husband, Bob Mayne of Girdler; Harold Lee and the late Sonja Lee of Corbin; four grandchildren; Kristie and husband, Kenny Hammonds of Villa Rica, Georgia; Becky and husband Jeff Blevins of Barbourville; Robby Mayne of Girdler and Jeff Lee of Corbin; eight great grandchildren; Marshal and Jayla Phipps, and Kirsten Hammonds of Villa Rica, Georgia; Zach and Eli Blevins of Barbourville; Peyton and Jacob Mayne of Girdler; and Jessica Lear of Corbin; four brothers; Creed Smith of Girdler; Leonard Smith of Gray; Cecil Smith of Brooklyn, Michigan and Estel Smith of Westland, Michigan; several nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends to mourn her passing. Funeral services for Irene Smith Lee will be conducted in the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel, Sunday, November 9, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jimmy Siler and Rev. Mike Griffis officiating. Burial will follow in the Hammons Cemetery at Girdler with Jeff Lee, Robby Mayne, Jeff Blevins, Duane Baysinger, Jonathan Barton and Buddy Burnett serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be, Irene�s roommate, Nannie Taylor, her family, friends, neighbors, members of the Locust Grove Baptist Church, Dr. Raymond Hayden, Dr. Richard Carter and staff at the Barbourville Family Health Center, Dr. Atenzia, Knox County Home Health, Knox Professional Pharmacy, All Employees of the Christian Health Center in Corbin and all of Irene�s Bingo Buddies. The Lee Family will receive friends at the Hopper Funeral Home Saturday after 6:00 p.m. and Sunday after 10:00 am until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements will be under the direction of Hopper Funeral Home. |
