Berchin H. HELTON Berchin H. Helton, 93, of Jarvis, was born on Jan. 20, 1914 at Crane Nest, Ky. He was a son of the late Hayes B. Helton and Ortie Parsons Helton. Mr. Helton died Saturday, May 12, 2007 in Knox County Hospital. Mr. Helton was a charter member of the Park Hill Baptist Church in Corbin. He was a teacher of agriculture and specialist in horticulture at Knox Central High School for 32 years. Mr. Helton specialized in growing orchids and apple trees. On Jan. 31, 1936, he united in marriage to Mary Ellen Jarvis and to this union two sons and a daughter were born. His wife, Mary, three sisters, Cleo Zabinko, Elsie Cook and Ruby Wall and two brothers, Jerome and Virgil Helton all preceded him in death. Mr. Helton is survived by his children: Burchen 'Donnie' Helton and wife Maxine of North Augusta, South Carolina; Larry Jarvis Helton Bartoli and husband Rob, Sherry Helton Farrow and husband Mike, Lee Eric Stallard, Tonya Jo Stallard and Lelary Helton; his great grandchildren: Jarrett Walker and Seth Farrow; his sister, Mary Ruth Hammons of the Walker Park Road, Barbourville; and his brother, Homer Helton and wife Emma of Chandler, Arizona; and several dear nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Berchin H. Helton will be conducted in Hopper Funeral Home Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Jack Smith and Rev. Bob Lockhart officiating. Interment will follow in the Cumberland Memorial Gardens at Lily, Ky. with Burchen 'Donnie' Helton, Larry Jarvis Helton, Carson Gilbert, Carson Mitchell, Lee Eric Stallard, Lee R. Stallard, Lowell Parker, Doug Warriner, Rick Allen, Curtis Corey and John Bill Keck serving as pallbearers. The Helton family will receive friends at Hopper Funeral Home Wednesday, 5:30 to 9 p.m. and Thursday after 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11 a.m. Arrangements were under the direction of Hopper Funeral Home. |
