CARL HAMMONS Our brother, Carl Hammons, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005. He had celebrated his 60th birthday with his twin sister, Laura Hammons Mills Turpen on Dec. 16, 2004.Carl had been feeling ill for the past two weeks and collapsed as he was seeking medical care. He was pronounced dead at Knox County Hospital. He was buried in a private ceremony at Barbourville Cemetery on Friday, Oct. 14, 2005. Carl was preceded in death by his father, Lester Hammons, in 1956. His mother, Ethel Hinkle Hammons, died in 1987.Carl was raised at Road Fork and attended Jackson Grade School. He had worked for Farmers Explosives and previously was a carpenter. After he retired, he spent countless hours fishing with his friend Les Brown and others. Last year, the Hammons siblings were first separated by death when Clark Sol (C.S.) lost his short battle with cancer. Carl is survived by a son, Carl Jr. and a daughter, Amy Kennedy. He was a proud grandfather to Matthew Hammons. Carl has two other sisters, Betty Jean Hammons Young and Anna Lee Hammons Lucas. Their husbands are respectfully, Robert P. Young and Roger D. Lucas. And deeply feeling the loss is his twin, Laura and her husband, also a special friend to Carl, James Turpen. Many nieces and nephews will also forever fondly remember Carl as a loving uncle: Brenda, Danny, Melissa, Belinda, Tony, Carmen, Scott, Lisa, Michelle and Jane. Belinda has two sons, Michael and Dakota Doolin, that have shared a special relationship with their great uncle. A special friend, Debbie, will cherish their special memories. The family also would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Ashburn and his staff. |
