Ella Kaye Collins
Ella Kaye Hammock Collins, age 60, of Barbourville, Kentucky entered this life on October 23, 1947 at Jenkins in Letcher County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Effie Morgan Hammock and Lester Hammock. She spent her childhood in Whitesburg, Kentucky attending Whitesburg Grade and High School. She graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education from Georgetown College in 1969. She married Andreae Reed Collins on June 7, 1969 at the First Baptist Church in Whitesburg, Kentucky. The couple resided in Lexington, Kentucky from 1969-1974 where Ella taught music in the Fayette County School System unitl Andreae received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the University of Kentucky. The couple moved to Barbourville, Kentucky in 1974, where they made their home and raised their family.Ella was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was privileged to accompany the adult choir, play the organ on Sunday evenings, lead the children�s choir programs and teach Summer Bible School. She taught private piano lessons for thirty years in her home and at the Barbourville City School. She accompained the Barbourville Elementary and the Barbourville and Knox Central High School Choirs. She also worked as an assistant to the Community Children�s Chorus. She was a member of the Barbourville Woman�s Study Club and the Kentucky Federation of Women�s Club and the Charolette Rock WMU Group at First Baptist Church. Ella was nominated for and received the KFWC/GFWC Empowered Club Woman of the Year Award for 2007.
Her hobbies included sewing, making jewelry and working in her flower garden. Ella was an avid sports fan who loved watching her sons and grandsons play baseball, basketball, softball and football while her daughter and granddaughter led the cheers. She was a member of the ladies Auxillary of the Gideons and along side her husband, Andreae, had the blessed privilege of distributing the Holy Bible during their travels.The good Lord called Ella home on Sunday May 18, 2008 at 9:00 pm. She will be missed by her cherished husband, Andreae Reed Collins; her three wonderful and devoted children; Andrea Kaye Grubb; husband, Paul William Grubb, granddaughter; Paula Kaye Grubb, grandson; Collin William Grubb. Dave Reed Collins; wife, Amy Cecil Lynn Liford Collins, grandsons: Cooper Reed and Cayden Luke Collins. Derek Lester Collins; wife, Amy Louise Carnes Collins, granddaughter, Ellie Jude Collins. She also leaves two loving brothers; Don L. Hammock and wife Beverly and Jack E. Hammock and wife Patricia and her uncle Lennon Hammock. Nieces: Debbie Frazier, Mitzi Kincer, Donna Spencer and Lynn McConnell, three nephews; John, J.D. and Todd Hammock along with two special cousins Marcia Mulkey and Billie Dove Higdon. A special thanks to her sister-in-law, Cheryl Banks and niece Dr. Sandra Banks Hayes and dear friend Kay Kincer. God sent a special angel aunt Mary �Murna� Collins, whose devotion certainly made her latter days more bearable. Ella was preceded in death by her mother and dad, Effie and Lester Hammock; brother, Tommy Hammock; niece, Sarah Lisa Hammock; nephew, J. Roy Hammock and sister-in-law, Sammie Hammock. She leaves to mourn her passing her family, her extended family and many very dear friends including her high school classmates. Memorial services for Ella Kaye Hammock Collins will be conducted at the First Baptist Church, Barbourville, Kentucky Saturday, May 24, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor W. Shane Nickell and Rev. Sylvester Dunn, Dr. Bill Mackey, Rev. Jack Sparks and Don L. Hammock officiating. Friends will be received at the First Baptist Church, Saturday after 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service at 7:00 p.m. Saturday evening. The Collins Family would like to extend a special thank you, to the Oncology &Radiology Staff at the Lexington Clinic, the Oncology Staff at Saint Joseph Hopsital, the Knox County Home Health Agency,Knox County Hospital, Dr. Richard Carter, Dr. Raymond Hayden, Dr. Michael Horn,Dr. Tom Ashburn and ARNP, Ruth Ann Combs.. The Family have suggested that contributions may be made to the Knox County Cancer Patient Fund, the Gideon Memorial Bible Fund or to the First Baptist Church Building Fund in loving memory of Ella Kaye Hammock Collins. Arrangements are under the direction of Hopper Funeral Home. |
