William F. McCabe, son of Greencurran McCabe& Permelia Ann (Mitchell-Williams) McCabe, lived in Douglas County, IL in 1880. In 1881, there is a marriage bond between William McCabe and Eliza Engle in Barbourville, Knox, KY.The bond shows Green C.McCabe as principal, but he was not present to secure themarriage bond. However, the McCabe family never gave up the deed to their farm in Knox County therefore William could still use this as collateral for the bond without having his father there (since Green was a wanted man- and that's another story).Knowing that the family lived in Knox County and had to move to IL, it seems that William traveled back to KY to marry Eliza Engle. After the marriage, William and Eliza went back to Douglas County, IL where they started a family.
It is known from further Census records and family records that William and Eliza had the following children: Jim McCabe- born May 1885, Rosa McCabe- born April 1888, Annie McCabe- born December 1889, Eli McCabe- born September 1893, Fred McCabe- born October 1894, and daughter Jessie McCabe- born August 1899. |
