Richard E. Kirkby was the last child and son of Submission 'Jane' Cowan and Robert Kirkby. Apparently he was born after the death of his father as he is not mentioned in the 1850 census of Franklin County, Indiana when it was taken in October. I believe his mother didn't even know she was pregnant with him when his father died in late January of 1850 and that she must have had him shortly after the census was taken. Richard is mentioned as being a child of Robert Kirkby's in Robert's pension files.
