Raymond Auxier, 55, Dies, Suddenly in California
Prominent Realtor Was Native of County
Alvin Raymond Auxier, 55, a native of Johnson County, died March 19 of a heart attack in
Glendale, California while testifying as a plaintiff in a civil suit over a commission in
Glendale Municipal Court. A Fire Department rescue squad working over him for 35 minutes in
the Court but was unable to revive him.
Mr. Auxier was the son of the late Elijah and Lou Ford Auxier of East Point, and was the
brother of Merlin Auxier of Mann, W. Va. and John B. Auxier, also of East Point.
He was a member of a prominent pioneer family of Johnson County. He attended the Sandy Valley
Seminary here and Berra College, where he excelled scholastically and was held in high esteem
by his instructors and classmates.
A resident of Glendale since 1931, Mr. Auxier taught English and journalism at Hoover High
School for several years before entering the real estate business. During World War II, he was
an Air Force intelligence officer at Luke Field, Arizona, where he held the rank of Captain.
He was president of the Auxier Real Estate Company, and in 1953 was named Glendale’s Realtor of
the Year. He was past president of the Board of the Exchange Club of Glendale, and a member of
the Verdugo Club, the Oakmont Kiwanis Club. He was also a member of the Glendale Multiple
Listing Assn., the California Real Estate Assn, and the National Association of Real Estate
Boards, and the Glendale Chamber of Commerce.
Besides his two brothers, he is survived by two sons, James E., stationed with the U.S. Navy in
Japan, and Timothy R. at home.
Funeral services were held on March 26 in the chapel of a Glendale mortuary by the Rev. Donald
B. Ruthenbert of the First Methodist Church of that city. Burial was made in Grand View
Memorial Park.
Attending the funeral services from this area were John B. Auxier of East Point and Merlin
Auxier and daughter, Janet, of Mann, W. Va.
