Roger L. Preston was a veteran of WW I who enlisted in the Army in 1917. He was in the First Infantry under the Command of J.W. McCormick. His duty brought to him five battle stars while serving in several campaigns in Europe.

The Paintsville DAR with his sister, Ora as Regent, had his name inscribed, along with his sister Frankie Preston Malin on the Memorial Bell Tower in Valley Forge. At the time his was the sixth person to be given this honor
