KOREAN CASUALTY TO ARRIVE FRIDAY
Services To Be Sunday For Sgt. Paul L. Daniel Of West Van Lear
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon, September 19, 1954 at 2:00 p.m. at the Third Street Freewill Baptist Church here for Sgt. Paul Leon Daniel, who was killed in action in Korea January 7, 1951.
Born February 20, 1931 at Van Lear, Ky., he was the son of Earl and Grethel Van Hoose Daniel of West Van Lear. He enlisted in the service in October 1948, at the age of 17. He took his basic training at Camp Breckinridge, Ky., and spent three days' furlough at home Christmas, 1949. He was then sent to Japan where he was among the first to participate in battle in Korea.
In a telegram from the Defense Department in January 1951, he was reported missing in action. In August 1954 the Defense Department notified the family of his death.
The body will arrive by train Friday morning, September 17, 1954 and will be taken to the Paintsville Funeral Home. It will be removed to the home on Buckingham Avenue in West Van later in the day.
Surviving besides the parents are one sister, Mrs. Edd Preston, Davis Branch, and one brother, Earl Daniel, Jr. West Van Lear. The Revs. Claude Preston and Virgil Daniel will officiate at the military funeral. Music will be furnished by the Toms Creek Quartet and the Paintsville Quartet. Burial will be made in the Davis Cemetery at Davis Branch under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home.
