Prominent Paintsville Woman Dies After Short Illness

Death Shocks City

Burial Sunday

 

                The death of Mrs Dan Wheeler* which occurred last Friday morning was a shock to the people of this section. Mrs,. Wheeler had been sick only a few days with pneumonia and while her condition was considered grave her death was not expected and came as a great shock to the people of the city.

                Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. Foley of the M. E. Church, Rev Sowards of the Mayo Memorial Church, and other ministers of the city. Mrs. Wheeler was a member of the M. E. Church and was a noble Christian woman. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs R. A. Patrick of this city and is survived by her parents, two sisters, Mrs. Harry Howes of Lexington and Miss Gertrude Patrick of this city. She also leaves her husband, Dan Wheeler, a prominent business man of Paintsville, two daughters, Alice Jeanette age 12, and Betty, age 2 years.

                No death in Paintsville has caused more grief than that of Mrs. Wheeler. She was the first graduate of the Sandy Valley Seminary (now the Jno. C C Mayo College) In her death the city and the county has lost one of the best women who ever lived.

                The bereaved family has the deepest sympathy of the people. In next weeks issue of the Herald a more lengthy account of the life of Mrs. Wheeler will be published.

*Mrs Wheeler was born Beulah Patrick on April 20, 1887. She died on March 4, 1927 and was the daughter of Robert Patrick. The children of this union were Alice Jeanette Wheeler who married Frank Kratz and had made a residence in Chattanooga Tennessee.  Betty Dean married James E Rawlings and made her home in St. Louis MO.
