                    Millard Auxier Dies In Nebraska

Native of County Was Veteran of Spanish-American War

Relatives here were notified last week of the death of Millard Mayo Auxier, 81, on February 23 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska.

While in Florida to spend the winter, Mr. Auxier suffered a cerebral hemorrhage early in February, and was removed to Veteran’s Hospital at Lake City. On February 23, he was
transferred to the Veteran’s Hospital at Lincoln, Nebraska.

Mr. Auxier was the son of the late George Auxier and Ann Prater Auxier of Johnson County. He was born at East Point Nov. 9, 1874. In 1881, the family moved to the Fishtrap area where he
lived until he went to Nebraska in 1893.

He lived in Richardson County, Nebraska, for 60 years, except for about five years spent in California, from 1943 to 1948.

On March 2, 1901, he was married near Paintsville, to Miss Theresa Stapleton, who died February 10, 1948 at Riverside, California. After her death, he spent his time with his children in
California, Nebraska, and with relatives in Johnson County.

Mr. Auxier was a member of the Falls City B. P. O. E. No. 963, the Veterans of Foreign Wars post, and the American Legion. He served in the Spanish-American War from June 20, 1898 to
August 23, 1899, with Company M of the Nebraska Volunteer Infantry. He also served later, for a few months in the Philippine Insurrection.

Mr. Auxier is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Fred Straus, Falls City, Neb.; Mrs. Dow Sailors, Barada, Neb., four sons, Lawton Auxier, Barada, Custer Auxier and Gordon Auxier, both of Los
Angeles; Marvin Auxier, Linten, Calif; a sister, Mrs. Martha Vaughan, Paintsville. There are 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
