Lexie Sims Jones

 

    Mrs. Lexie Sims Jones, 68, died at 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 13, 1953 at her home on Main Street after a year's illness. Although she had been in ill health, her sudden death shocked and saddened her many friends in this city where she had been a beloved and respected resident for many years.

    The widow of John A. Jones, well-known funeral director of this city who preceded her in death January 18, 1953. She and Mr. Jones were married in Gallipolis, Ohio June 26, 1907, and moved to Kentucky approximately forty years ago. A native of Ohio,  she was born October 11, 1885 in Gallia County, the daughter of the late William and Charity Hunt Sims. She was a member of the Mayo Memorial Church of this city. A woman whose warm friendliness endeared her to all with whom she came in contact, she will be missed by her neighbors and many friends in this section. Always serene and gracious she moved with gentle dignity about  her daily tasks, centering her interests in her home and church. A devoted Christian she gave unselfishly of her time and energies to the church and its activities. Loyal and faithful to its cause, she participated in all affairs of the church and attended its services regularly. She was particularly interested in the Sunday School, and this fall was presented a Bible by her  Sunday School Class in recognition of perfect attendance.

    She is survived by five children; two daughters, Mrs. Louise J. Moore, Anchorage, Alaska, and Mrs. Avanelle Schwendner, Chicago, Ill.; three sons, Edwin H., David S., and  Marvin D. Jones, all of this city. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. John Kitchen, Oak Hill, Ohio, and Mrs. J. N. Tanner, Gallia, Ohio.

    Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 16, from the Mayo Memorial Church with Rev. J.I. Meyer, Rev. Joseph Zavadsky, and Rev. S.C. Honeycutt officiating. Burial was in the Wells-Buckingham Cemetery under the  direction of the Carter-Callahan Funeral Home of Prestonsburg.
