Thomas J. Witten is the son Francis M. Witten and Vicie Mullins (3 of 4 wives). The following is from the Lewis County Herald in Kentucky:
Thomas J. Witten, 93, of Garrison, died unexpectedly Wednesday, January 12, 2000, at his home.
Born May 16, 1906, at Big Sandy, he was a son of the Frank M. and Visa Mullins Witten. He was a WW II veteran, retired from CSX Railroad, an
honorary lifetime of the VFW Post #438 of Lewis County and had attended Emanuel Baptist Church. Surviving are five daughters, Verna Mae Hicks of Portsmouth, Ohio, Linda Riffe of Vanceburg, and Herma Howard, Frances Lambert and Brenda Cox, all of Garrison; four sons, Winford Witten of Mt. Dora, Florida, and Harry Witten, Jack Witten and Lynn Witten, all of Garrison; 10 step-children; 48 grandchildren; 103 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great grandchildren; and 22 great-great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Holt Witten, and his second wife, Marie Holt Witten; one son Hascal Witten; five sisters and two brothers.
Services were conducted Saturday, January 15, 2000, at 3:00 p.m., at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Elder Jim Willis and Elder Walter Norris officiated with burial in Witten Family Cemetery.
Military graveside rites were accorded by American Legion James L. Flannery South Shore Post #276.
