Chester Witten b. May 7, 1894 d. 9-18-1979 married to Virgie Welch b. Feb 11, 1897 d. July 4, 1983. They were married on April 21, 1919. Of this union the following children were born;

James was born on July 26, 1920 the son of Chester and Virgie Welch Witten. He graduated from Oil Springs High School and attended Pikeville College. He went to Europe with the 814 Bomber squad during WWII while serving his country in the United States Air Force. He owned and operated one of the larger coal mine in Eastern Ky and served one term in Johnson County as a judge as a democrat. He also served as the Executive director of the First Nation Bank of Paintsville.

James Curtis Witten, 77, died Wednesday, September 17,1997 at his residence. He was a Sitka resident. Mr. Witten was born July 26, 1920, in Johnson County, to the late Chester and Virgie Welch Witten. He retired from First National Bank, and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corps.
Very active in the community he was a member of Sitka Church of Christ, Lions Club, Big Sandy Airport Board, Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center Board and El Hasa Shriners and was a mason. Surviving are his wife Elizabeth Witten; three sons James C. Jr., William C. and Robert W Witten, all of Sitka; one daughter, Lisa Schaeffer of Louisa; two brothers, Harold Witten and Chester Witten Jr., both of Sitka four sisters, Jacqueline Arrowood of Thelma Joann Witten of Sitka, Bonnie J. Phelps of Ft. Myers, Florida, and Betty M. McKenzie of Catlettsburg; and 12 grandchildren
Funeral services were held Friday, September 19, at Jones Preston Funeral Home Chapel, Dick VanHoose and Jerry Scott officiating. Internment was in Lakeview Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville, Johnson Co Ky.
