James Sammons
James Sammons of Williamsport, died last Thursday morning at the hospital after an illness of three months. Mr. Sammons was one of the county's prominent farmers. Years ago he had been engaged in timber projects which furnished employment for his neighbors and friends when other work was hard to find. He was considered to be one of the most accommodating of men. Mr. Sammons would not rest if he knew a neighbor was in need until he had done all he could to help. He was a welcome visitor in every home in his community.
He was born in Johnson County, April 4 1872, Mr. Sammons was past 73 when he died in May of 1945. He was the son of the late Greenville and Angeline Sammons. He is survived by his widow, Mrs Catherine Honeycutt Sammons, a son Arbin Sammons, Baltimore, Md., and four daughters, Mrs. Adams; Mrs.Edna Walters, Boons Camp, Ky,; Mrs. Nora Baldridge, Ashland, Ky.; and Mrs. Mary Horne, Newport News, Va.; Two daughters, Mrs. Grace Pack and Miss Mahala Sammons, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Sunday morning at Old Friendship United Baptist Church by Rev. L.T. Preston; Rev. Winfrey Meek and Rev. Leonard Walters. Mr. Sammons was a member of the United Baptist Church.
Burial was in the cemetery near his home. Arrangements were directed by the Undertaking Department of the Paintsville Furniture Company.
