Joseph Harman Maynard


Joseph Harmon Maynard, age 80, of Grove City, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2002 at his residence. Joseph was born May 28, 1921 in Piso, Ky. to the late John Talmadge and Minny (Varney) Maynard.

As a young man, Joe worked in the coal mines for 10 years in W.Va. and during World War II, he was a Transportation Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corp serving in the Philippine Islands. He moved to Columbus in 1952 and was property manager for Dr. Abramson for 17 years, and later retired from Armstrong Furnace after many years of faithful service.

Preceded in death by brothers Woodrow, Mac and Claude, sister Marlene Costa. Joseph is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Magdalene (Marcum) of 59 years; sons, Charles (Alberta), Jack (Carol), David (Theresa), Tim (Peggy), Joseph Jr. (Sandy), John (Kelli-Jo); daughters, Carol (Harry) Cordle, Linda (Tom) Murphy, Joan (Donn) Mason; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, OJ Jimmy (Ethel), Layton (Ruth), Bill (Loddie-Mae), Bob, JT, and Frank; sisters, Hatti Collins, Georgia Bartly, Ibba Jean Miller and Peggy (Holly) Wolfe; sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Ethel Maynard, Eloise Jenkins; brother-in-law, Matthew McNeely; special nieces, Joyce Kennedy and Bee Crisp; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday 4-8 p.m. at MILLER FUNERAL HOME, 2697 Columbus Street, Grove City. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday, First Baptist Church of Groveport, 5521 Groveport Pike Road. Pastors Ralph Perdue and Bill Maynard officiating. Interment in Fernwood Cemetery.
