John Hopkins McFaddin

John McFaddin was born to Isaac F. McFaddin and Margaret Boys in Russell County, Virginia on September 25, 1837 and died on November 22, 1908.

He is buried in the Crab Meade cemetery near Jenny's Creek.  John married Florance Gray Morton daughter of William A. Morton and Lourinda B. Moore.

John and Florance had 11 children which all grew up in Paintsville, Kentucky and today still have offspring that live in Paintsville.  There children were George Thomas McFaddin, Nancy "Nannie" McFaddin, Isaac F. McFaddin, Catherine McFaddin, William McFaddin, Mary Elizabeth McFaddin, Alvida McFaddin, Edd McFaddin (my Great Grandfather), Warner Barnes McFaddin, Claude W McFaddin and Ross McFaddin Sr.

John served in the civil war in the 37th infantry in Russell County for 3 threes before removing his family to Johnson County.  He enlisted on March 10, 1862. Captured at Strasburg on June 3, 1862. Delivered to Aikens Landing June 26, 1862 and exchanged August 5, 1862 and later deserted in 1865.

There is a cemetery in Paintsville called the McFaddin Cemetery which is located just below the Mayo Cemetery.  Every year the McFaddins still gather in Paintsville for their family reunion.  It is generally held in June.  Crab Meade cemetery finds many relatives interned there.   There are certainly believed to be at least 15 McFaddins buried in this cemetery.  John Hopkins and his wife Florence and their son Ed McFaddin and his first wife Emma Fitch are among those buried here.
