Justice Dennison, 29, died at 12:45 a.m., Tuesday, February 26,1963 in the Veterans Hospital in Huntington, W. Va., of a gunshot wound suffered forty-five days earlier at Boons Camp. The son of Maxie Daniel Dennison of Boons Camp and the late James Dennison, he was born at Boons Camp November 17, 1933. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church and was employed as a factory worker in Wabash, Indiana. Survivors include besides his mother, his wife, Mrs. Hellen Jean Mullins Dennison, whom he married December 26, 1959, in this city; a son, Ricky Lee, and a daughter, Kathy Lynn, both at home. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters, Purvis, Leo, Arlo and R.W. Dennison all of Wabash, Ind.; James Dennison Jr., Yoin , W.Va., Luster Ramey, Logan, W. Va.; Luther Ramey, Yolyn, W. Va.; Vincda Collins, Louise Wells both of Van Lear; Ernestine Spears, Wabash, Ind.; Mayflower Crum, Yvonne Mollett and Vivian Mollett all of Boons Camp. Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Upper Greasy Schoolhouse with Ellis Hamilton and Leonard Webb as officiating ministers. Burial was in the family cemetery at Boons Camp.
Master Sgt. Charles Albert Gullett, 59, died April 24, (1971) in a Lexington hospital after suffering a brief illness. The 26-year U.S. Army veteran was manager of central duplicating at the University of Kentucky. He was born in Paintsville to the late Sherman and Irene Bush Gullett and was a member of Paintsville Masonic Lodge No. 381, F & AM. Gullett lived in Lexington the last 16 years. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Stapleton Gullett, and three brothers, Andrew J. Gullett, of Lexington, Robert F. Gullett, of South Shore, Ohio, and Paul R. Gullett of Canton, Ohio. Grave side rites were conducted April 27 by the Paintsville chapter of Disabled American Veterans, with Elmer Wiley officiating. Burial followed in the Stapleton Cemetery at Winifred, under the direction of the Preston Funeral Home. Hall who died at his home in South Point, Ohio on Wednesday, February 5, 1941. Mr. Hall was a native of Johnson County, having been born and raised at Winfred. He was 61 years, a Spanish-American War Veteran and a member of the Masonic Lodge with membership at Ashland. He had resided at Ashland for about 30 years before going to Ohio. Joe Howard, age 62, died at his home near Lowmansville on February 23. 1940. He had been in ill health for more than a year a sufferer from heart trouble. He was married to Phoebe Hall who died in 1911. They had six children, three girls and three boys, all of whom survive. They are Jarvey Howard, Columbia, Tennessee; Steve Howard, Jackson, Ohio; Dalpha Howard, Paintsville; Mrs. Dock Reed, Portsmouth, Ohio; Mrs. Jeff Reed, Paintsville, and Mrs. G. B. VanHoose, Manila. He also leaves three brothers and one sister, Steve Howard, Win; Jim Howard, Wheelersburg, Wiley Howard, Portsmouth, Ohio, and Mary Lemaster, Morgan County, Ky. He was an ex-service man, enlisting in the regular army in 1912. He was stationed in Mexico in 1916 where he received an honorable discharge. Mr. Howard was well known in Paintsville where he resided for some time. Funeral services were held on Sunday, Feburary 25, at the home of his brother, Jim Howard, at Wheelersburg, Ky., and burial was in the family near his wife's side. JEFFORDS, 73 SUCCUMBS MARCH 30 IN VET HOSPITAL William R. Jeffords, 73, died at 2:00 a. m., Thursday, March 30, in the Veteran's Hospital in Huntington, after an illness of several months. He was a retired oil well driller, and had made his home at Kerz, Ky., for the past 2 years. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p. m., Saturday, April 1, at the United Baptist Church at Kerz by Rev. Stephen Howes Johnson, 61, of Paintsville, died Wednesday, Apr.10, 2002, at his residence. Born Jan. 30, 1941, in Louisville, he was a son of William A. Johnson and the late Mary Evelyn Howes. He was an attorney, member of the Kentucky and Johnson County Bar Associations, member and past president of the Rotary Club, member of First United Methodist Church, served Paintsville as city attorney for two terms, charter member of Paintsville High School Alumni Association, a member of the 1958 PHS golf team that won the state title, a graduate of Duke University with honors in economics, graduate of University of Kentucky School of Law and Order of the COIF, U.S. naval veteran serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis and past member of the naval ROTC. Survivors include his wife, Harriet Johnson of Paintsville; a daughter, Jan Leigh Patton of Paintsville; and a grandson. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today, Friday, Apr. 12, at Paintsville Funeral Chapel, with Father Terance Hoppenjans and Rev. Donnie Patrick officiating. Burial will be in Mayo Memorial Cemetery, Paintsville, under direction of Paintsville Funeral Home.
Howard Paul Lemaster, 55, died Friday, July 21, 1989 in V.A. Medical Center, Lexington. Mr. Lemaster was born November 11, 1932, the son of Howard Lemaster and Irene Fitch Cantrell. He was an electrician and member of the Freewill Baptist Church. Surviving are his mother; his wife, Mabel Ferguson Lemaster; one son, Howard Brett Lemaster, U.S. Army, Colorado Springs, Colorado; and one daughter, Paula Lemaster Wells, of Raleigh, North Carolina; two sisters, Jean McKenzie, of Thelma, and Sue Daniel, of Hager Hill; and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 23, in Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Toby Johnson and Hubert Sloan officiating. Burial was in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.
Jack Litteral, 28, died Tuesday evening, July 16, 1957 in the Marion City Hospital, Marion Ohio. His death was attributed to injuries received when he was thrown from a horse against a tree. Born February 12, 1929, he was a son of Benson and Maymie Blair Litteral of Oil Springs. He had been employed as a tool dresser at Oil Springs and had recently gone to Marion where he was employed by a riding club. Litteral had survived four years in the service. Surviving beside his parents are three sisters, Mrs. Jack Adams of Columbus, Ohio, and Virginia Ruth and Janet Sue Litteral, both of Oil Springs. Services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 1957 form the Oil Springs Methodist Church with H. B. Holland and John Collins as officiating ministers. Burial was made in the Litteral cemetery of Oil Springs.
BILLY R. MEEKS Age 67 of Brookville, Ohio passed away Thursday, April 4,2002. Billy was born in Paintsville, Kentucky, November 23,1934. Retired from from McCalls and L&CP, an army veteran and preceded in death by his parents, Shade & Laura Meek, his sisters, Juanita and Helen and his brothers, Clyde, Chester and Bobby. He is survived by his wife, Thelma; 2 daughters & sons-in-law, Malinda and Darren Booth and Deborah & Martin Tucker; son and daughter-in-law, David & Sheri; 5 grandchildren; sister, Lydia McDowell and 2 brothers, Shadie and Dempsey. Robert Murphy, 74, died Wednesday evening in the Veteran's Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. Born December 21, 1882, he was the son of the late Marion Thomas and Sytha Lemaster Murphy. He
had been a resident of Dayton for five years. He was retired from the U. S. Army. By occupation, he was a salesman. His wife, Alka Duty Murphy, preceded him in death February 22, 1946. Surviving are two sons, Robert Earl Murphy, stationed at Fort Knox, Ky., and Claude Allen Murphy, stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., and one daughter, Mrs. Loretta Ward of Williamsport. Other survivors are four sisters, Mrs. Virgie Price, West Van Lear, Mrs. Jennie Caudill, Kilbourne, Ohio, Mrs. Elizabeth Remphroe, Shelbyville and Mrs. Martha Brown, Prestonsburg, and three brothers, Bill Murphy, West Van Lear, Pat Murphy, Sandusky, Ohio, and Alex Murphy,Toledo, Ohio. Services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday from the West Van Lear Church of Christ with Moses Kitchen as officiating minister. Music was by the Toms Creek Singers. Bruce Allen Music, 67, of Staffordsville, died Wednesday, April 17 2002, at Paul B. Hall Medical Center, Paintsville. Born Feb. 11, 1935, in Johnson County, a son of the late Russell and Alice Hall Music, he was an assembly line worker with Nava Star International and a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Jean Fraley Music of Staffordsville; three sons, Timothy Allen DeLong, Gregory Scott DeLong and Bruce Jeremy Music, all of Springfield, Ohio; two daughters, Carla Campbell of Springfield and Heather Burke of Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland; a brother, Charles Music of Springfield; a sister, Ruth McKenzie of Red Bush; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Dave Flanery Sunday, April 21, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, Paintsville. Burial was in Highland Regional Memorial Park. Jones-Preston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
