George W. Powers

    George W. Powers was a life-long resident of Meally.  He succumbed Sunday November 15, 1953, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Melvin Music of Meally. This was following an illness of several months. He was the son of Dave and Mary Lilly Powers and was born April 23, 1863 in Johnson County. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death in 1939 by his wife Minerva Goble Powers.    

    Surviving are four sons; Garfield, Carl and Estill Powers, all of Meally, and Jerry Powers, Michigan; four daughters; Mrs. Rosa Music, Mrs. Aggie Music, Mrs. Cindi Short, all of Meally; and Mrs. Ada Murphy of Van Lear. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Melvin Music at Meally, with the Reverend S.C.Honeycutt officiating. Burial was made in the family under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home.
