Charles Kenneth Burton
Charles Kenneth Burton, 24, Thealka, was killed Friday night when the car he was driving plunged into Dewey Lake near the boat dock at Brandy Keg.
Paul Burgess “Buddy” Daniel, 21, nephew of Burton, who was a passenger in the car, escaped serious injury. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Daniel of Thealka.
Burton, the son of Mrs. Rachel Gibson Burton of Thealka, and the late Foster Burton, was born October 18, 1931.
He was a graduate of Meade Memorial High School, class of 1950 and had served four years with the United States Air Force. He was a student at Mayo State Vocational School and a member of the Paintsville baseball team.
Surviving besides his mother are five brothers, John and Clifford Burton of Thealka, James F. and Lawrence Burton of Hamilton, Ohio, and Herbert Burton, Pikeville, and four sisters, Mrs.
Mitchell Daniel, Mrs. Dennis Daniel and Mrs. Arnold Young, all of Thealka, and Mrs. Worth Goble, Pikeville.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at the home at Thealka with the Revs. Walter Hooper, Claude Preston and C. C. Hall officiating Music was by the Toms Creek Quartet.
Burial was made in the Wells-Buckingham Cemetery in Bridgeford under the direction of the Paintsville Funeral Home.
This is the first accident in the lake area this year.
